Yield Guild Games (YGG) has officially announced its role as the first community partner of Pixelmon TCG, marking a major milestone for the card battler as it prepares for global rollout. To celebrate the collaboration, YGG and Pixelmon TCG have launched an exclusive tournament for the web3 gaming guild's community, which is live now and runs until September 1.
The competition offers $4500 in prizes, but with limited entry spots.
What Is Pixelmon TCG?
Pixelmon TCG is a trading card battler set in the Pixelmon universe, expanding the franchise into competitive mobile gameplay.
The game blends collectible card mechanics with strategic monster battles to create a fast-paced web3 gaming experience. Each 1v1 PvP match has players use cards representing various creatures referred to as Pixelmon. Both sides start with the same amount of health, but once you play your card to attack the opponent’s card, not only will your opponent lose health, but you will gain more health points in return. The same applies vice versa; when your opponent attacks you, they gain health back. There is also an interesting mana system, where the more mana you spend in your turn, the more mana your opponent will have in their next turn. Mana can be used to evolve your Pixelmon to make it into a stronger card while activating their special abilities.
Partnering with YGG allows the mobile title to tap into one of the biggest web3 gaming guild communities during its crucial early launch phase. Pixelmon TCG went live in early access last week, but only in APAC for Android users. The plan is to eventually launch the game globally at some point later this year.
What Is the YGG x Pixelmon TCG Tournament?
The YGG x Pixelmon TCG tournament is a community-exclusive event designed specifically for YGG members as a result of the guild officially becoming the game’s first community partner. It started on August 25 at 6 PM SGT and will end on September 1 at 6 PM SGT.
Only the first 1,000 players to redeem the YGG code are eligible to participate, and just like the game’s early launch, the tournament is also open only to APAC players on Android devices.
Competition is structured around a point-based leaderboard system. Players will earn points after every match, regardless of whether the match is won or lost. Of course, those who win get significantly more points, that is, 5 points, while losing a match only awards you with 1 point. At least there are no penalties for losing.
With this points system in place, this means that your goal is to collect as many points as you can to climb to the top of the leaderboard before the tournament is over. The leaderboard can be tracked in-game, with the top 15 players set to win a share of the $4500 prize pool:
- 1st place: $1,000
- 2nd place: $750
- 3rd place: $600
- 4th place: $500
- 5th place: $400
- 6th place: $300
- 7th place: $250
- 8th place: $200
- 9th place: $150
- 10th place: $100
- 11th - 15th: $50 each
Winners will be announced and prizes coordinated with the Pixelmon team within two weeks after the tournament ends.
In addition to cash rewards, all tournament participants will receive a 120% gem rebate that will be credited to their accounts at the start of Season 1. This rebate is only valid for players who make any in-app purchases during the event.

How to Join the YGG x Pixelmon TCG Tournament
To get started, you need to be among the first 1000 players to redeem the YGG code. You can find it by heading on over to YGG’s community page and connecting your Discord account.
From there, open the Quests section from the left side of the page, and then click on Pixelmon TCG to access the tournament hub. There you will find a bit of info on game mechanics, details on the prize pool, and a dedicated page for the YGG code. Open it, copy the code and access the quest, which will take you to the game’s official website to download the game on your Android device via the Google Play Store, APAC region only. If there are still spots available, you should be able to enter the code and gain access to the competition, giving you an opportunity to play to earn rewards for free.
Yield Guild Games Completes $1M $YGG Token Buyback
On the same day after launching the exclusive tournament, Yield Guild Games announced that they have used revenue generated from their browser-based board game LOL Land to complete another token buyback of $YGG tokens, with the value this time being $1 million.
This token buyback was made in the open market, with the $1 million USDT transaction said to be initiated on August 22 at an average rate of $0.1703, meaning that 5.873 million tokens have been acquired with this transaction. Proof of the transaction was provided in the announcement post. The bought tokens were transferred back to the guild and secured “in a fresh Ethereum multi-sig controlled by the YGG Treasury.” The announcement also states that the fresh wallet was created “as the tokens from this buyback will be segregated from the main treasury and remain off-market indefinitely.”
