Web3 gaming pioneer Yield Guild Games (YGG) is stepping into the publishing world with a new division called YGG Play. This arm is focused on a fresh genre it calls "Casual Degen," and its debut title, LOL Land, is already making waves.
With 4 years of experience backing and testing countless crypto games, YGG is now taking a bolder role. Co-founder Gabby Dizon said:
"Over the past four years, we've seen and played hundreds of games, and YGG has invested in many of them. Through that experience, we've come to know what's fun, what works and what doesn't, and that's led us to develop some very strong opinions on how to best serve the crypto market," he said. "YGG Play, which is specifically targeting the Casual Degen market, is our expression of all that we've learned over the years, starting with our first game, LOL Land."
YGG Play aims to make fun and casual crypto games more accessible while staying true to the ethos of blockchain gamers — or "degens," as they call themselves.
LOL Land is a Monopoly-Go style browser game where fun meets crypto culture. The game features four themed boards: YGG City, Beach Day, Carnival, and Ice World Wonderland. In this wintery map, players can choose from characters based on Pudgy Penguins community figures like Aaron Teng, Rusk0f, KP, Burnasso, and Orange. Even Gabby Dizon appears as a playable avatar.
Players can move across the board, collect points, unlock NFTs, and earn rewards. There are two game modes: a free one and a premium one. The free mode allows endless rolling but no token rewards. Premium mode lets players buy rolls and earn points that convert into $YGG tokens. This feature appeals to both casual players and those looking to earn.
The game already attracted over 100,000 pre-registrations and is live on Abstract Chain, a platform built by Igloo Inc., creators of Pudgy Penguins. This platform simplifies web3 onboarding with features like social logins and passkey.
Launched exclusively on May 23, LOL Land is offering a whopping $10 million in YGG token rewards. The prize pool was funded early this month, giving players a real incentive to dive into the game. You can also play the game in GAP Season 10 for a chance to unlock even more rewards.
The partnership with Pudgy Penguins not only provides character inspiration but also marks a strategic collab.
"LOL Land is a game built by degens for degens," said Luca Netz, CEO of Pudgy Penguins. "It takes everything we've come to love about playing web3 games and puts it into a casual pick-up-and-play experience. We're really excited to be a part of YGG's first game and its exclusive launch on Abstract."
For those who may not know, YGG began in 2020 by helping players earn income from games. It became known for leading the web3 guild model during the play to earn boom. Now, it's evolving beyond that.
Today, YGG is a collective of gamers and builders focused on opportunity through play. It supports various projects and games, bringing experience, user testing, and content creation into early game development.
By forming onchain guilds, YGG allows community members to self-organize and take part directly in project growth. These guilds connect with games, provide feedback, help onboard users, and receive rewards for their efforts.
LOL Land runs exclusively on Abstract, a newer blockchain aiming to simplify web3 for everyone. Created by Igloo Inc., it focuses on consumer use cases with fast, cheap, and secure transactions.
At its core is The Portal, a gateway to hundreds of onchain apps. This makes it easy for anyone to explore blockchain games and products without needing advanced crypto knowledge.
Abstract already powers other games like Myriad, Roach Racing Club, and Gacha, showing strong early adoption.
As such, LOL Land is just the start for YGG Play. Future game boards are already in the works, including Pirate Cove and Parkside Story. With its community-led approach and strong launch partners, the team is setting itself up as a major web3 publisher to watch.
Visit LOL.Land to try the game or pre-register if you haven't already. Only players aged 18 or older in eligible countries can join in.
This marks a bold step forward for YGG and the broader web3 gaming world, combining fun gameplay, community culture, and token rewards into a new kind of play.
