Web3 game developer Parallel Studios, known for sci-fi card game Parallel TCG, has unveiled a new cinematic trailer and the official name for Project Tau Ceti, now called Sanctuary.
Parallel Sanctuary (or just Sanctuary) is a third-person extraction shooter powered by Echelon Prime and built on B3, the open gaming layer 3 on the Base network. It’s set in the growing Parallel sci-fi universe, which also consists of free to play Parallel TCG that is available right now, alongside Parallel Colony, an AI agent game that’s been in development since 2023, if not earlier.
This game initially started off as a side project code-named Project Tau Ceti, but thanks to community feedback, the team has decided to put more focus into it and try to expand its IP with another high-quality blockchain gaming experience.
The new trailer is a cinematic announcement revealing the real official name of Project Tau Ceti to be Sanctuary. It doesn’t show any gameplay footage, but is a nice animated display of what we might get to see when actually playing the game.
We can see an injured soldier slowly walking their way to a crate after a hard-fought battle, opening it to gather certain materials. After that, the soldier heads outside and looks up to the sky, where something is visible far off in the distance, possibly their home somewhere in space, a safe haven they long to return to.
Given what was shown here, I guess all this footage could serve as a neat hint to the actual gameplay that we can look forward to. Since this is an extraction shooter, players will likely crash land on various planets and search for these crates containing valuable resources, with the aim of taking as many as they can and then trying to extract back to their home safely. Probably to sell the materials or perhaps use them to upgrade their gear, or a bit of both. It’s not too far-fetched to assume all this from a cinematic trailer given that it’s a blockchain game, but even the gameplay footage shown last year has one moment in which a player is opening a crate, so that earlier video from September 2024 seems still very much relevant today. It also seemed to tease PvE gameplay, which might be combined with PvP combat. You can check that exclusive first look at gameplay embedded in an official X post.
Hopefully this reveal also means that we will be getting some new gameplay action shown soon! After the success of Off The Grid, here’s hoping this blockchain extraction shooter works out great and manages to garner significant interest from the gaming community. No official release date is available at the time of writing.
This cinematic trailer was unveiled live at the Parallel Prime Championship, after which the first-ever Parallel League Prime Champion was crowned, with the winner earning a grand prize of $100k. Congrats to Jarla on winning the prize and the first trophy of the competition!
In other big news related to this sci-fi gaming franchise, this month was also marked by the announcement that Parallel TCG is going mobile on March 19th. You can pre-register for it right now on their official website before the game officially launches on Android and iOS devices through the Play Store and App Store respectively.
Earlier this year, Echelon committed $3 million in prizes for Parallel Prime League Seasons 2 and 3.
