Open source web3 MMO Market Wars has officially launched in open beta, removing the need to have an access code for playtesting what is actually a World of Warcraft mod.
Play and Earn in Market Wars Open Beta
With the open beta version now live, the mod is now available to a wider gaming audience, allowing both blockchain gamers and Blizzard fans to easily jump in and play to earn various rewards that will be distributed when the game fully launches.
While the open beta uses a test token currency, you can still play and earn exclusive on-chain items and skins by completing 12 different missions (or 16 depending on how you look at it) before the playtest is over. Each completed quest provides a different reward. Next to that, there is also a $10,000 USDC prize pool up for grabs across 3 categories:
- $250 to Most Valuable Tester*
- $150 to 5x MVT Runner Ups*
- $9K split evenly among level 80 testers who complete the Market Wars playtesters survey*
* Terms and Conditions apply.
Here are all the 12 quests you can try to complete for on-chain rewards:
- Log in: Simply log in to receive “The Profiteer” log in title
- Explore the entire map of Northrend (Northrend Explorer Achievement) - your exploration is rewarded with the Explorer Cloak
- Complete all Northrend Dungeons on Normal difficulty (Northrend Dungeon Master Achievement) - A Dungeon Master Cloak is up for grabs for successfully raiding all the dungeons in Northrend
- Complete all Northrend Dungeons on Heroic difficulty (Northrend Dungeon Hero Achievement) - Doing these dungeons on Heroic difficulty is said to be rewarded with “Two-hand Sword Appearance + Shoulder Appearance”
- Acquire a legendary piece of gear for an all-new mount appearance
- Reach max skill level in any crafting profession to receive a Profession Tabard
- Gain max skill level on all gathering professions on a single character (Mining, Herbalism, Skinning) - This one rewards you with one tool “to gather them all”.
- Reach level 80 on 1-3 Alliance characters – If you get to level 80 on 1 Alliance character, you get an Alliance banner. If you do it on 2 Alliance characters, you get another banner, and another if you get to level 80 on 3 Alliance characters. Each of these Alliance banners look set to be visually different.
- Reach level 80 on 1-3 Horde characters – All of the same from the Alliance quest applies here as well, with a different Horde banner awarded for each of the 3 level 80 Horde characters.
- Get to level 80 on both an Alliance and a Horde character – Doing so gets you an Alliance and Horde banner.
- Complete a purchase (with test tokens) on the Marketplace – This gives you “The Procurer” title for the Marketplace.
- Buy 20 different listings (with test tokens) on the Marketplace – Do this if you want a Marketplace Tabard!
If you complete all of these quests, you will receive a custom banner of Rare, Epic, or Legendary quality.

How to Start Playing Market Wars in Open Beta
You can start playing Market Wars in open beta by downloading it through HyperPlay, a web3-native game store. Since this is a mod for World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (3.3.5a), anyone that wants to play will need to own a copy of World of Warcraft 3.3.5a. If you do, simply follow the step-by-step instructions that appear when trying to install this web3-powered mod on HyperPlay.
The non-commercial mod itself is a free to play private server with a blockchain-powered marketplace, and given its open-source, community-owned nature, all future profits in the live game will go to a community treasury governed by the players. “Our motivation is the conviction that the market needs to see an actual successful use case of Web3 elements in a game that people want to play,” according to the FAQ at the bottom of the mod’s official website.
All progress made on the beta server will be wiped to prepare for official launch. There is no exact timeframe for the official release as of writing, nor did the team provide an exact duration for this playtest. However, according to a Discord announcement, you can expect this open beta to last for a few weeks. The launch date will be shared in the future.
Once the game is fully live, the test token currency will be replaced with the $G7 Token, as this mod is a part of on-chain gaming ecosystem Game7 due to their inclusion in the Game7 Developer Program. There is no TGE date and no official play to airdrop event for $G7, but you never know, perhaps active players could end up getting rewarded for their time spent in this open beta.
