Sports prediction app Football.Fun has officially announced the FDF Pack Sale, giving eligible users the opportunity to grab lootboxes containing random players that will soon be tradable as fractionalized on-chain assets on Base.

What Is the FDF Pack Sale?

The FDF Pack Sale is a limited time chance to be among the first to collect and own your favorite football players on the FDF Pro version of the platform.

Each Player Pack features a random set of 4 players, with the value of each pack said to be 2000 shares, or 500 shares per player. On this platform, every player awards you with a varying number of shares. You can sell these shares for Gold, one of the game’s currencies, as well as buy shares of players using Gold. Opening Player Packs requires spending Tournament Points, which are earned depending on how good your squad picks perform in competitions. Gold can also be earned from tournament prize pools, alongside Skill Points, which you need to use for promoting players from your development squad over to the main squad. If you want players from the development squad to be tradable and eligible for tournament participation, you then need to promote them using Skill Points.

This is the earliest opportunity to get a hold of players on the crypto version of this sports platform, so if you want to start building your squad, then this sale might be one you don’t want to miss out on. Here’s how to join in.

How to Participate in FDF Pack Sale

The FDF Pack Sale takes place across 2 Phases, and the number of Player Packs you can purchase depends on your Account Reputation (REP), so if you’ve already been an active user on the FDF app, you are probably eligible to buy a decent number of packs at the price of $20 USDC on the Base network.

Phase 1 is scheduled to begin on August 5 at 3 PM UTC, but there seems to have been a delay at the time of writing, so I will update the starting date once official info is out. (Update: Phase 1 is now live from August 5, 5 PM UTC) This first Phase lasts 46 hours and awards allocations based on your Account Reputation, but also beta activity and performance. That being said, Phase 1 is thus geared towards users who have already used the app. The price is $20 USDC per pack with 2000 shares per pack included, and allocations are said to range from $60 minimum to $2000 maximum. Eligible participants should have the option to buy at least 3 packs.

After the first Phase is over on August 7, 3 PM UTC, the second Phase should then begin on August 8 at 3 PM UTC. All unsold packs from Phase 1 will be available to buy in this phase, and buyers from the first phase can participate again. Phase 2 runs for 24 hours, and the price per pack seems to remain the same. Only whitelisted users from the first phase can take part in the second one, according to the Discord announcement, so if you’re completely new, you’ll have to buy shares of players from the upcoming secondary Pro Marketplace, as well as earn them through tournament rewards.

Following the end of the sale, Player Packs are planned to be revealed on August 8 at 1 PM UTC, while player trading could start at some point next week before the beginning of the new season. More trading details will be announced after this sale is over. On August 5, the first 10 players in FDF were revealed live on X. The first 10 footballers revealed include: Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joško Gvardiol, Amir Rrahmani, Cole Palmer, Bruno Fernandes, Joshua Kimmich, Lamine Yamal, Erling Haaland, and Mohammed Salah.

The link to buy will be posted in the game’s Discord server once the official sale page is ready to go. Once you log in to the website, you will be able to see what your eligibility status is. (Update: the sale is now live at founders.football.fun/)

While the packs from this sale have 2000 shares each, you can expect different types of packs to be added to the platform in the future. There should be 3 tiers of packs eventually, according to the official wiki: Pro Pack, Epic Pack, and Legendary Pack. The higher the tier, the more shares you can expect per player in the pack. It’s not stated which tier of pack you’re getting in this first sale though.

About Football.Fun

Football.Fun is a Base-powered sports fantasy platform in which you build your squad out of tradable players from the top 5 European leagues and jump into tournaments to earn rewards.

To get started in the beta version of this web3 sports platform, you will need to get an invite code from someone who already has access. Users already using the app can get invite codes by completing various objectives. Once someone gives you an invite code, you can get started for free by signing up to the FDF app on your web browser or mobile device using either your email, crypto wallet, or a social sign in option.

Soon, anyone will be able to join in and start playing either through the Free to Play version, or the Pro (Crypto) edition. Anyone who goes for the free to play route will receive 1000 Gold to get started with trading Player Shares, while Pro users will have to buy Gold using USDC.

Essentially, the goal is to collect and trade Player Shares to build your squad while participating in tournaments and completing objectives to earn Tournament Points and Skill Points. Tournament Points let you open Player Packs for more Player Shares, while Skill Points are needed to promote players in the development squad over to the main squad, transforming them into tradable players. The top 5 outfield players and top 3 players in a competition earn you Gold, and the more shares of the best players you have, the more Skill Points you will earn. Tournaments take place every week, and their reward pools depend on the platform’s trading volume.

Overall, if you’re a fan of football and web3 sports games such as Sorare and Socceverse, then Football.Fun might be very well-worth checking out. Last month, Football.Fun raised $2m to build their web3 fantasy football platform.
