Ahead of the Season 2 launch, the developers of Engines of Fury have officially revealed new details on the $FURY economy that will soon power play and earn gameplay when the web3 title is back up and running on the Epic Games Store.
How Will the $FURY Economy Work?
Over the long term, the plan is to develop a self-sustaining, player-driven economy that is built on these 4 primary pillars: Guilds, Convenience, Cosmetics, and Play & Earn. For the upcoming season however, players will get to experience one of these pillars, and that is the Play & Earn system.
The $FURY economy will revolve around the use of a two-tier currency system to try and ensure stability and prevent the volatility of external markets affecting the core gameplay experience while “protecting the value of our premium on-chain token “ and being capable of rewarding the most dedicated gamers for their in-game activity in a generous manner.
That being said, the dual-currency model consists of $ALLOY and $FURY.
What Is $ALLOY?
$ALLOY is the earnable in-game soft currency found as a raw material through gameplay in the game’s post-apocalyptic world. This means that you’ll earn it by looting enemy players, opening up Council Caches, and by unlocking on-chain Faction Lockboxes, which are crafted using Faction Shards. You need 6 shards of the same faction, and you can collect them by trading on external NFT marketplaces, looting other players in-game, or by becoming an Initiate NFT owner to unlock the ability to raid Fairwater and Cliffside maps, which contain Council Caches that have a chance to drop a random Faction Shard next to $ALLOY tokens.
The $ALLOY token however is an off-chain currency that can be bought as an in-game purchase, but it cannot be used outside the game’s ecosystem. It thus acts as the primary in-game currency that can be exchanged for $FURY tokens at the Trading Station of your hideout. This will be the core function initially, but over time you will be able to use it to buy cosmetics as well as useful items such as tactical consumables that can include barrels, turrets, and healing items.
What Is $FURY?
$FURY on the other hand is the game’s official on-chain currency that is already live on centralized and decentralized exchanges on the BNB Chain. It has a maximum total supply of 120 million tokens, with 48 million circulating at the time of writing. It also utilizes a deflationary model that features systemic token burns that are “funded by a portion of game revenue.”
Next to buying it on the markets to deposit to your in-game wallet, the premium token can also be earned by converting the in-game $ALLOY currency, as well as by taking part in special community events and climbing to the top of the weekly leaderboard.
In terms of use cases, $FURY is used to buy utility NFTs that unlock access to the play to earn economy. It’s also needed for getting various premium items, and eventually is set to be used for converting in-game equipment into NFTs. Not only will you be able to trade your weapons and armor, but minting them into on-chain assets will actually prevent other players from looting that gear, so if you die out in combat and don’t want your equipment looted by other players, you’ll want to turn them into tradable assets. Another reason to convert your gear into NFTs is to prevent them from being destroyed at the end of each month by The Sporefall event. This recurring event wipes out character progression and non-NFT items at the end of each month, with only your NFTs and $FURY tokens remaining secure.

Utility NFTs Unlocking Play & Earn Economy
There are 4 utility NFTs that unlock the play and earn economy in Season 2 of Engines of Fury:
- Initiate Mark NFTs
- Diffusion Drive Cores
- Faction Shards
- Faction Lockboxes
The Initiate Mark NFT is the most crucial asset to unlocking the play to earn gameplay loop in this PvPvE title. Activating it in-game will give you the Initiate Raider status to allow you access to raiding maps containing valuable loot while also unlocking the ability to open Council Caches found in those raids. Council Caches are special lootboxes that contain a small number of $ALLOY tokens. Every map has 6 Council Caches, with one guaranteed to include a rare Faction Shard. The Initiate's Mark NFT can be bought in an upcoming NFT presale event, but can also be earned in special leaderboard events and by exchanging your Council Medallion or Proto Cell.
Diffusion Drive Cores are reusable NFT keys that will be needed to power a new specialized hideout module called the Diffusion Drive. The Diffusion Drive is needed for unlocking Faction Lockboxes, and you’ll be able to buy the Cores from the game’s presale event, an external NFT marketplace, or by ranking at the top of the monthly leaderboard.
Faction Shards are used for crafting Faction Lockboxes, and as mentioned before, can be traded as NFTs and found in Council Caches, but also by taking out other players potentially carrying them. With 6 identical Faction Shards, you can craft a Faction Lockbox, which is set to contain plenty of $ALLOY, “between 10 to 500 times more than what can be found in Council Caches,” making the NFT container the main goal for players to continuously craft in order to earn more $ALLOY and thus have the potential to earn more $FURY tokens from converting the in-game currency.
