Obitus Games has officially kicked off the 3.0 edition of OverForge in OverKnights, giving blockchain gamers a new opportunity to play to earn USDC ahead of the upcoming play to airdrop campaign.
What Is OverForge 3.0?
OverForge 3.0 is a new leaderboard-based event that lets F2P players and NFT holders earn USDC through separate leaderboards by playing free to play card battler OverKnights.
While the 2.0 version of this system rewarded players with daily USDC prizes, this third edition turns it into a weekly leaderboard competition system that revolves around the game’s ELO system, meaning players compete for the top rankings by winning ranked PvP matches to get the highest ELO score that they can during the week.
There is a total weekly prize pool of 600 USDC that is split evenly across two independent, weekly leaderboards: the Global Leaderboard (300 USDC / week), and the Genesis Holder Leaderboard (300 USDC / week).
The Global Leaderboard is open for all players to climb for free and features 300 USDC up for grabs every week for the top 10 players with the highest ELO score:
- 1st: $80 USDC
- 2nd: $60 USDC
- 3rd: $45 USDC
- 4th: $35 USDC
- 5th: $25 USDC
- 6th: $20 USDC
- 7th: $15 USDC
- 8th: $10 USDC
- 9th: $6 USDC
- 10th: $4 USDC
This is how much you can earn on these leaderboard positions every week if you’re not holding a Genesis Pilot NFT. If you are however, then you do get a multiplier on your USDC winnings depending on the rarity of the asset you own:
- Common: x1.1
- Rare: x1.25
- Mythical: x1.5
- Legendary: x2
These multipliers only influence your payout, not your leaderboard points. This means that the Global Leaderboard is a fair, skill-based ladder that anyone can climb for free. Holders simply get more rewards if they manage to rank in the top 10, with the multipliers applying to this leaderboard only.
The Genesis Holder Leaderboard is exclusive to players with crypto wallets holding Genesis Pilot NFTs and features a weekly $300 USDC prize pool up for grabs for the top 25 players. Just like the global one, this leaderboard also counts your ranked PvP matches, so the better your ELO score, the higher your position will likely be. It’s just that this ladder only ranks NFT holders, giving Genesis Pilot owners a chance to earn more USDC by ranking on both weekly leaderboards.
Here is how rewards are distributed for the Genesis Holder Leaderboard:
- 1st: $60 USDC
- 2nd: $45 USDC
- 3rd: $35 USDC
- 4th – 5th: $25 USDC each
- 6th – 10th: $15 USDC each
- 11th – 15th: $10 USDC each
- 16th – 20th: $7 USDC each
- 21st – 25th: $5 USDC each
There are no reward multipliers in this NFT-gated leaderboard. The NFT multipliers apply only for the Global Leaderboard.
For both leaderboards, scores reset every Monday, and a wallet snapshot for NFT verification takes place on Monday, 00:00 UTC, which is when a new weekly cycle starts. Every weekly cycle runs from Monday, 00:00 UTC, to Sunday, 23:59 UTC. Rewards are sent on Monday. Of course, if anyone is caught doing nefarious activities such cheating, ELO boosting, or bug abuse, they will be disqualified immediately.
How to Play to Earn in OverForge 3.0
OverForge 3.0 went live on August 12 and runs for 4 weeks, giving web3 gamers 4 attempts to play to earn USDC in OverKnights for free.
Not only does this leaderboard event serve as a great way to start playing the Immutable and Sequence-backed title if you're not playing already, but it’s also an excellent warm-up for the upcoming Play 2 Airdrop campaign, which will feature 3 seasons of questing for the $OVC token alongside more USDC-based leaderboards to compete in.
For this weekly event however, there is no token airdrop allocation, only USDC.
“Each of the next four weeks will be a great challenge, serving as a warm-up for what we’re building. If you want to be in top shape for the Play 2 Airdrop, now’s the time to start!”
To get started, simply download the open alpha version of the game for free on the Epic Games Store and enter your email address through a login system powered by Sequence. With that done, you can go through the tutorial and afterwards connect your Immutable Passport to participate in leaderboard rankings. The leaderboard section is accessed by clicking the trophy icon in the top right corner of the screen, and it’s from there where you will be given the option to connect your Immutable Passport.
With all that out of the way, you can choose a starting loadout or try creating your own OverKnight, a customizable humanoid robot made out of 5 different Parts. Each Part features a different ability and they're divided into active and passive Parts. Active Parts come with a certain cost to activate them during battle, while passive ones activate automatically if certain conditions are met.
Once you’ve chosen the Parts, you then start selecting Cards to create a deck of 20 – 30 Cards in order to complete your loadout. There are different types of Cards, and each one of them can be customized by adding Components. If you want a Card to have additional effects, you can choose to add up to 2 Components to 1 Card to potentially make it more useful for your strategies. However, some Components can increase a Card’s Energy cost, but some can actually lower that cost. Another important detail to keep in mind is that each Component added to a Card reduces that Card’s blocking capacity, meaning it will absorb less damage when defending the more Components it has.

With all the Parts equipped and your deck fully set up, your loadout is complete and you’re ready to test it out in practice mode against bots. If you think you’re ready, you can then dive right into ranked PvP matches and try to win as many of them as you can during the week in order to have an ELO score that is high enough to rank in the top 10 on the Global Leaderboard, or top 25 if you own a Genesis Pilot NFT. Each match is a turn-based battle in which you play Cards using Energy in an attempt to defeat the opponent’s robot. Both sides have a Health bar, Energy bar, and Shield bar. Both Energy and Shields reset every round, and you gain Shields by playing Cards that add them. When your opponent attacks, you can choose to block their attack by playing a Card in your hand that has a blocking capacity, absorbing the damage depending on how high the Card's blocking capacity is.
As you play, you get to unlock new Cards and Parts, giving you more freedom to create more varied loadouts. Don’t forget to connect your Immutable Passport in the leaderboard section of the game to properly participate in OverForge 3.0.
For the time being, OverKnights is only available on Windows PCs, but should eventually go live on mobile devices as well. Last month, OverKnights released an Ecoonomy and P2A Roadmap Preview, giving the blockchain gaming community a glimpse at how players will be able to play and earn various rewards in the future.
