RTFKT Announced Clone X Launch Date

Digital art and fashion label RTFKT will launch the Clone X NFT collection next week. The presale will start on November 18th for existing RTFKT NFT holders, while the public sale will take place two days later. Arguably Clone X is one of the most anticipated projects hitting the market this month.

On November 18th the team will sell 10.000 Clone X avatars to their existing NFT holders. Those with certain NFTs in their wallets can claim 2 characters, while users with an RTFKT Metakey can claim one clone. These characters will sell for 0.05 ETH, followed by the public sale for everybody two days later. During the public sale they will also sell 10.000 characters.

The Clone X sale will take place on the official RTFKT website. Each of the 20.000 NFT avatars will be fully 3D, custom modeled, ready to be used in a variety of virtual worlds. 

Last month we also wrote an article in which we highlight existing and upcoming NFT projects that have a use case in the metaverse. More importantly, we want those NFT avatars to be able to walk around in a 3D world. In recent month Habbo Hotel stepped into the metaverse, IMVU announced to embrace NFTs, and Gala Games launched their Vox avatars.

Importance of avatars in the metaverse

When we talk about the metaverse as a unified digital environment, we also need to think about the way we represent ourselves through our avatar. Having a 3D avatar that you can connect to your crypto wallet and use in every virtual world, therefore makes a lot of sense. However, this requires lots of industry standards, and we're not there yet.

To some extend our crypto wallets are already a data-driven representation of who we are inside the metaverse. Our wallets reveal how deep our pockets are, but also which DeFi dapps you’ve used, what type of games you like, and where you buy your NFT art. Wallets are like a gateway into someone’s soul, to some extend.

Web domains like .crypto by Unstoppable Domains are a way to have your wallet represented by something similar to an user name. But those domains are ‘just’ a nickname, and we’d also need to connect that nickname to a visual representation. That’s where projects like CryptoAvatars and Genies come into play. These projects allow you to create a visual representation of yourself, which could be exactly like you or something completely different.

A visual representation doesn’t need to look like you. In the NFT space we already see people using for example Avastars as their representation. Especially, WhaleShark has taken this to a next level, using his most valuable Avastars character as visual layer during live interviews. These avatars make you recognizable as a particular person in the metaverse, on the internet, without revealing who you are in real life. Change identity? Then switch wallet, and thus you switch avatar, and therefore your identity will change.
