Free to play PvP combat arena game Moonray: Battle Lands is officially coming to Steam on May 10th in the form of an upgraded closed beta build.
The closed beta version of Moonray: Battle Lands is packed with upgrades, content, and new features for players to enjoy. According to an official X post, the team has introduced major tech upgrades that likely enable a smoother gameplay experience, but that’s not all you can look forward to in this release. If you played Moonray on the Epic Games Store before and have become accustomed to the available Heroes, you can expect to notice some potentially significant changes in this release, as it looks like this latest version will bring “reimagined” Heroes. This means that playing with these overhauled characters probably comes with notable improvements and balancing adjustments that make third-person battles more fluid and exciting than before. You can also expect to see 2 new Heroes added to the game: Zol Jei,and Getz’l Nok. This also means that there are 2 new weapons: a hammer and a healing blaster.
Next to enhancing the backend and revamping Heroes, the team has further refined combat with the introduction of Mover 2.0 and Motion Matching, so we can certainly expect an overall smoother PvP experience and hopefully new opportunities to devise new strategies. You can also expect to see new maps and arenas to fight in while progressing through a new battle pass called “Path of Trial”.
On top of all these promising updates, the game is actually getting full controller support, plus an abundance of new cosmetics to unlock. Overall, this certainly seems like quite a big update, so if you haven’t played this web3 game in a while, now will sure be the perfect time to jump back in for some intense arena action. Here’s how you can join in on Steam for free.
To join the closed beta phase of Moonray: Battle Lands on Steam, you will need to sign up through an application form for a chance at being selected. The previously-mentioned X post that gave some details on this release mentions that the community should be on the lookout for the next sign up form. At the time of writing this, it doesn’t seem like that form has opened yet, and with the launch happening this Saturday, May 10th, you will certainly want to keep an eye on the game’s official social media channels to make sure you register as early as possible.
After launch, an AMA is planned to be held on Thursday, May 15th, at 10 AM CST in the game’s official Discord server. Tune in to find out more about the game and see what the team plans on doing next. In the meantime, make sure to wishlist the game on Steam to help it gain more visibility on PC’s biggest gaming platform while potentially increasing your chances of participating in this early build.
Moonray is a third-person PvP combat arena game in which players battle it out in fast-paced, melee-focused action in a science fantasy world. Win the favor of the gods as you utilize a rewarding skill-based combat system to outwit your foes on beautiful floating islands across multiple game modes. Unlock new weapons and use different fighting styles to your advantage while leveraging various elements of dynamic arenas such as explosive barrels and collapsing bridges to tactically secure victory.
Personalize your experience with various cosmetic items and climb competitive leaderboards as you battle it out in Duel Mode (1v1), Team Deathmatch (4v4), Deathmatch (8-player free for all), and objective-based modes that revolve around capturing points and completing various tasks.
While the Steam version won’t have any web3 features, those looking for the blockchain version of Moonray can already jump into it as a Base-powered free to play title on the Epic Games Store. In this game, skins and cosmetics are NFTs, but you don’t need to connect a wallet to play, making the web3 side of things completely optional.
Last year, Moonray announced a PlayStation 5 launch for 2025, after which Moonray secured $10 million in an oversubscribed funding round. Later on, it was also revealed that an Xbox Series X launch is planned to happen at some point later this year.
