Anichess, a browser-based game combining classic chess with magical elements, has announced a strategic partnership with global esports brand Team Secret. This collaboration aims to enhance the role of chess in the esports arena by offering a new platform for both playing and learning the game. In addition to this partnership, Team Secret’s CEO, John Yao, will join the Anichess team as an advisor.

Expanding Game Features and New Partnerships

Anichess is an Animoca Brands subsidiary co-developed with Chess.com and world chess champion Magnus Carlsen. It has been rolling out its game features throughout 2024. The game has garnered attention for its unique blend of traditional chess and engaging magical elements.

Anichess has also announced new funding and a partnership with Mon protocol, along with the integration of the newly unveiled Checkmate ecosystem token C into its game. These developments are set to bolster the game's ecosystem and enhance the player experience.

Team Secret’s Role in Anichess

Team Secret, an experienced entity in the web3 gaming space, will play a crucial role in advising Anichess on game design. The team has previous collaborations like the one with Offchain Labs L3 network XAI in October 2023. Additionally, Team Secret will help market Anichess to its dedicated esports community, ensuring the game reaches a wider audience.

Brian Chan, Head of Anichess, commented on the partnership. He said:

“Esports has always been a core pillar of Anichess’ modernization of chess’ legacy. Anichess’s enga daging visuals, tools to improve, and thrilling spells make it an amazing platform for all competitors. We look forward to those willing to take on the challenge when PvP arrives in-game soon.”

Upcoming Features and PvP Mode

Ahead of its forthcoming PvP mode set to launch later in Q2 2024, Anichess is focusing on creating an immersive experience for players. The game's engaging visuals and innovative gameplay mechanics are designed to appeal to both seasoned chess players and newcomers alike.

John Yao, CEO of Team Secret, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. He said: “Anichess is a promising twist on chess, with even more of what makes the original great... compelling tactics, broad recognition, and rewards for players willing to think outside the box and surprise opponents. I’m looking forward to guiding Anichess into the realm of esports and integrating the new chess platform into our dedicated community.”
