Play to Earn in Cambria Gold Rush Season 2: The Paymasters

Cambria Gold Rush is officially live with Season 2: The Paymasters, giving eligible players an opportunity to play to earn rewards in a dangerous MMO world for 14 days.

What Is Cambria Gold Rush?

Cambria Gold Rush is an experimental risk to earn MMO where players venture into an unforgiving top-down 2D fantasy world in search of riches and treasure. Starting from the safe zone hub that is the Capital City, players journey outside into PvPvE zones to find corrupted items such as Artifacts, Curios, and Gems. These valuable assets can be exchanged for Royal Favor and Coins by heading to Ser Althus at the Royal Treasury. The more of these currencies you earn, the bigger your share of the seasonal prize pool could be.

While you can try this web3 game out as a free to play player, you will ultimately need to mint a Royal Charter for 0.02 ETH or ~53 RON if you want to properly play and earn. Those who play for free get a starting Energy of 30k, and once that runs out, you can no longer play. To upgrade this free trial and unlock your earnings and progress made during it, you need to either get sponsored by a guild or buy a Charter, so you might be able to get a scholarship for this Ronin and Abstract-powered title.

The Royal Charter is essentially a battle pass that regenerates Energy for you every day. Most of the gameplay activities that give you Coins use up Energy, including actions such as extracting resources and defeating various monsters. Being outside safe zones also drains your Energy every few seconds, with higher-tier regions consuming more, as those areas come with tougher monsters but also potential for bigger rewards. The higher the risk, the better the loot could be. You can also mint Energy Orbs in-game at any time for 0.0015 ETH or ~4 $RON if you need more Energy. Each Energy Orb gives you 100k Energy when used, with a daily soft cap of 8 orbs in place to lower farming. The soft cap uses an Orb Toxicity system which causes orbs used above the cap to increase the amount of Energy a player consumes, thus making it less efficient to use more than 8 orbs a day.

Season 2 kicked off on April 11th at around 11 AM EST and is set to run for 14 days. It's playable on web browsers and requires connecting an Abstract Global Wallet to earn Abstract XP, or a Ronin Wallet to earn RON. Other login methods such as MetaMask and Google are also available.

What’s New in Cambria Season 2: The Paymasters?

Season 2: The Paymasters introduces a new class in Cambria. This new class is referred to as the Paymasters, and it’s one that focuses more on the web3-powered economy than on the action itself. This class buys and deposits Royal Charters into the Syndicate Vault to asset passive control over loot collected by other players. Depositing Charters generates Syndicate Shares at a 1:1 ratio. Charters cannot be withdrawn from the vault. The more shares a Paymaster has, the more ETH and in-game resources they get to earn from the hard work put in by those fighting for spoils outside safe zones.

Basically, the new class taxes players for passive profit. This is done through 2 main tax streams: the New Charter Tax (25%) and the Solo Cash-In Tax (15%).

The New Charter Tax activates whenever a new Charter is bought, with tax distributed right away to all Syndicate Share holders. The Solo Cash-In Tax is applied whenever solo players cash in Corrupted Loot (Artifacts, Curios, Gems) at the Royal Treasury, with the 15% tax applied to both Coin and Royal Favor rewards. This tax is auto distributed to all Syndicate Share holders. Founder NFT holders don’t have to pay this tax (up to a max limit / cap) while the top 15 guilds can avoid this cash-in tax as well. Other guilds have to pay a 5% tax instead.

With this new class, this means that users can choose to become passive investors instead of strictly being active players. When depositing a Charter, you can choose whether it should be used for Guild Sponsorship, or for receiving a Syndicate Share.

What Rewards Can You Earn in Cambria Season 2?

Cambria Season 2 consists of a Main Prize Pool in USDC, alongside a variety of other rewards.

To earn a share of this season’s USDC prize pool, which is funded by ETH / RON spent in the game, players need to collect and cash in varied loot to earn the in-game tradable Coins. The more you get, the bigger your share of the pool will likely be by the end of the season, with the distribution system based on the following criteria:

• 90% - Coins Held (min 10+ USDC cashout)
• 5% - Critical Bug Bounty rewards
• 5% - Content Creators / Referrals rewards

Next to this main pool is the Points Leaderboard, which is determined by the number of Royal Favor you manage to extract. You can earn these points by cashing in loot, leading or sponsoring a guild, as well as by becoming a Paymaster. The more points you earn, the more loot crates called Bribes you can get. These Bribes can be opened in the game lobby to get airdrop points called Trinkets, alongside Land Raffle Tickets. Around $1m+ is planned to be airdropped for this second season, while tickets give you a chance at earning a piece of the upcoming Lands NFT collection.

It’s also possible to earn weekly Abstract XP. This depends on the amount of Royal Favor you earn per week, but also on the number of Trinkets earned from Bribes, the amount of Charters minted, and the number of Energy Orbs purchased.

According to the founder’s X post, the player-contributed prize pool is already at $300k+ very shortly after launch, making it a bigger reward pool than the one from the first season. Find out more about reward distribution and about Cambria in general by heading to the official docs.
