On November 18, the team behind Wizzwoods announced a $10 million Series A investment led by Animoca Brands and Infinity Ventures Crypto (IVC). According to their post, the funds will speed up development and help shape the future of web3 gaming. Several other angel investors also joined the round.
This funding follows Wizzwoods' token generation event (TGE) held in March this year. The combination of major backing and live token economy sets the stage for what's next in the game's development and expansion.
What Is Wizzwoods?
Wizzwoods is an open-world strategy farming game available through Telegram Mini-apps and Twitter extensions. It mixes resource farming, cross-chain trading, multiplayer strategy, and NFT integration. Players take control of wizard islands that they can build, upgrade, and customize freely.
The project combines elements from titles like Pixels, DeFi Kingdoms, and Axie Infinity, but introduces cross-chain features that span Berachain, TON, and Tabi. Gameplay revolves around idle farming, upgrading, social quests, and resource management, making it easy to pick up but still packed with depth.
Core Gameplay Systems
Wizzwoods includes multiple gameplay systems designed around idle production, territory management, and community interaction. Players build and manage islands that grow as prosperity increases. This prosperity comes from decorations, worker output, and other in-game upgrades.
The main elements include:
Farming: Players assign wizards to work buildings like the Granary of Abundance, where they generate resources such as Mushrooms. These are then used in other buildings to create advanced items like Mana Gel and Ethereal.
Decorations: Players can place various decorations on their land. These improve prosperity and change the island's look.
Quests: Community-based tasks completed on platforms like Twitter and Telegram can unlock new partnerships and rewards.
Social Integration: Twitter and Telegram are built into gameplay. These platforms are key to some tasks, partnerships, and communication.
Upgrading: Players can manage resources across chains while upgrading their land, wizards, and structures.
Wizards and Island Progression
Wizards are the workers and heroes of Wizzwoods. They are assigned to buildings to generate core resources and improve the island's prosperity. Wizard NFTs can be minted through an in-game process called the Inauguration Ceremony, which requires 1-star or higher characters.
As wizards level up, they become more efficient. At level 30, they can "awaken" into higher star ratings, starting again at level 1 without losing their power. Higher-level wizards bring more prosperity and unlock better gameplay options.
Island prosperity is central to progression. As it increases, the size of the island expands, and more gameplay options become available. Prosperity is calculated using both base and multiplier systems. Base prosperity comes from working wizards and placed decorations. Multipliers depend on factors like invitation level and statue upgrades.
Notable Buildings and Characters
Players can build and upgrade several key buildings:
- Statue: Shows the level of the island. Higher levels unlock new buildings and increase land space.
- Granary of Abundance: Produces Mushrooms.
- Herbarium Sanctum: Produces Mana Gel using Mushrooms.
- Gem Vault: Produces Ethereal using Mushrooms.
Special named characters include:
- Luna Wicca: Expert in nature magic and potions.
- Max Spell: Wise and skilled in ancient magic.
- Shadow Paws: A stealthy cat wizard with fast spells.
Wizards must use silver or gold coins to level up. Star-rated wizards need gold coins for upgrades.
Unique Features and Events
The game also adds variety with events like Screaming Chicken encounters. These random events require players to click and remove noisy chickens for silver coins. The higher the island's statue level, the more chickens spawn, increasing silver coin potential but also extending respawn times.
At the competitive level, there's the Wizarding Arena, where players send teams of up to 32 wizards into ranked PvP battles. Arena seasons reset monthly, and the system matches players with similar skill levels. Each win gives players a loot chest containing coins, decorations, and other rewards based on their rank. Ranks include Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Champion.
Battle mechanics include attributes such as health, critical hit, combo chance, counter rate, and lifesteal. Players can also unlock Arena-specific skills based on their wizards' production backgrounds. Wizards can even be synthesized to combine and upgrade abilities.
Another competitive system is the Quidditch Race. Three wizards (Luna Wicca, Max Spell, and Shadow Paws) compete in races held twice daily. Players vote using $xWIZZ tokens, and winners split the prize pool based on how many votes they placed on the champion wizard.
Voting stages cost between 10 and 30 $xWIZZ per vote, depending on the round. Rewards include full refunds for winning votes and extra gold from the prize pool.
Mining Pool 2.0
Mining Pool 2.0 adds a DeFi layer to the game. Players who reach statue level 30 can stake xWIZZ tokens to access this system.
Rewards are calculated using a mix of base APR, boost APR, and prosperity APR. The base APR is fixed at 50%, while the prosperity APR depends on the total island prosperity. Players can stake extra xWIZZ to increase their boost APR at any time.
The prize pool offers a 500% annual yield based on total xWIZZ staked. Rewards can be claimed during the pool or after it ends.
About the WIZZ Token
WIZZ is the main in-game currency. It launched on the Berachain mainnet with plans for cross-chain bridging. Its total supply is 1.8 billion, with an initial circulating amount of 423 million (23.5%).
The token's contract address is 0x01C8A5ccAD23A4D3764eF71c403862160Aa2913a. Token release will span 4 years, with use cases focused on gameplay, liquidity, and in-game rewards.
Allocation includes:
- 70% for game rewards through mining, staking, and new features
- 2% for liquidity
- 5% for lending pool functions
- 15% for ecosystem growth
- 3% for advisors
- 5% for team development
The $xWIZZ token was required for swapping into WIZZ at the March TGE. Players were evaluated based on recharge amount, xWIZZ usage, and statue level to determine their token share. The reward system rewarded long-term engagement and community activity.
Funding and the Future
Wizzwoods has raised $10 million in one of the more notable crypto gaming funding rounds this year. The backing from Animoca Brands and IVC comes at a time when many web3 projects have scaled back or shut down. Their support gives Wizzwoods added room to develop and expand its systems.
According to the team's post, the funds will help speed up development and support the game's direction in the web3 space. With the TGE now behind them and a live game economy already running, the current focus appears to be on scaling both gameplay systems and token use.
This raise also reflects some confidence in Wizzwoods' interchain model and player-driven design. With features like Arena PvP, DeFi-linked mining, wizard upgrades, and live events already active, the next steps may involve refining those mechanics and exploring wider chain support.
