On Tuesday, August 19, 12 PM UTC, the developers of MMORPG Calamity will officially start the Incentivized Technical Test, giving the web3 gaming community a new chance to play and earn various rewards through another new playtest.

What’s New in Calamity’s Incentivized Technical Test?

The Incentivized Technical Test includes almost all of the features planned for Calamity's upcoming P2A campaign, except the guild system and advanced fishing baits.

This playtest also features support for Cosmetics, Rings, and Pass/Gold purchases, and you can expect new services for buying these to go live at the start of the test phase on the game’s official dApp. As this is the first test of the game’s new build, various bugs, rollbacks, and long maintenances may occur, due to this new build featuring huge reworks to architecture, backend, and servers while adding in plenty of new mechanics, so some unforeseen issues are bound to arise. The team advises players to avoid engaging in OTC trades such as buying Gold outside the official dApp. Making such trades could result in lost progress that the team will not be able to refund. “If event is rolled back due to exploits, we can’t refund those trades,” reads the official Discord announcement.

Of course, this test session also comes with opportunities to play and earn various rewards. These prizes include USDC, Factory NFTs, and a raffle for 500k WYRM tokens.

The USDC Tribute prize pool grows with player purchases, and you can earn a share of it depending on the amount of Gold held in your inventory by the end of the test event. You do need to have at least 1000 Gold to qualify for this prize pool, which starts at $1000 USDC and is increased when players buy Gold, Season Passes, and more. For this playtest, 1000 Gold is equal to $1, but for the P2A event, $1 will be equal to 100 Gold. To earn Gold, sell items at the Auction House as a F2P player, or buy the $2 Season Pass to start earning Wyrm Shards in dungeons, as Wyrm Shards determine the amount of Gold you receive every day.

To win a Factory NFT, you need to rank among the top 25 players on the Valor Leaderboard. You can earn Valor Points by spending time in dungeons, with areas of higher difficulty awarding more points. Factory NFTs will be claimable in a future Factory Sale after the play to airdrop campaign is over.

If you want to win an airdrop of WYRM tokens, then you can look forward to the 500k WYRM raffle, where 100 winners will be rewarded with 5000 WYRM each. Players need at least 850 Valor Points to enter the raffle, as that amount is equal to 1 ticket. The more points you have, the more tickets you get for a higher chance of winning the raffle. 30% of rewards will be claimable starting at TGE, with the rest distributed through 3 months of linear vesting.

While a referral system is in place for this technical test, you won’t receive rewards for bringing in friends over using your invite link. However, the referrals you make throughout this test will actually count for the main P2A event, so it might be worth getting people onboard during the test phase anyways. Don’t refer players ahead of this playtest though, as those referrals will be wiped.

If you’re a content creator, you have a chance of winning Factory NFTs by making engaging social media content. The top 20 picks based on quality and engagement will win 3 Factory NFTs each, while the top 5 game guide authors in any language will be rewarded with 5 Factory NFTs each. This creator-focused event runs until August 29, 11 AM UTC, and you can participate by posting on X and other social media platforms while sharing your content in the “#creative” channel of the game’s Discord server. Winners to be announced on September 5.

How to Play and Earn in Calamity’s Incentivized Technical Test

Calamity’s Incentivized Technical Test begins on August 19, 12 PM UTC, and ends on August 22, 2 PM UTC, and while you can participate for free, anyone looking to maximize their play and earn chances will want to buy the $2 Season Pass.

To get started, download Calamity for free on the Epic Games Store, Steam, or the game’s Discord server, where you can find separate zipped builds for Windows and Mac. This is a beta version of the game, and anyone downloading the game client from Discord will need to re-download every time there is a new game update.

You can earn Wyrm Shards in dungeons only if you buy the $2 Season Pass, with the Pass set to be available for purchase through the official dApp once testing begins. That is also where you will be able to buy Gold as well.

For this playtest, 1000 Gold is equal to $1 USDC, and that is the minimum Gold amount needed to receive a share of the growing community-funded prize pool. The more Gold you manage to earn, the bigger your share will be.

To earn Valor Points, you simply need to spend as much time as you can raiding the toughest dungeons available. The higher the difficulty of the dungeon, the more points it awards. If you end up being among the top 25 players with the highest number of Valor Points, you should be rewarded with 1 Factory NFT, claimable in an upcoming Factory Sale after P2A. Having at least 850 Valor Points also make you eligible for the 500k WYRM raffle, so be sure to get as many points as you can for a potential chance of winning an airdrop allocation of 5000 WYRM tokens.
