That’s right, the festive spirit is already here way early in action RPG Big Time, as the game’s studio has just kicked off the “Christmas in July” event with a massive token prize pool. If you like Xmas and winning crypto rewards, then this early holiday treat is probably what you’re looking for.
What Is Big Time?
Big Time is a third-person action RPG featuring procedurally generated dungeons to battle through solo or with friends while participating in a player-driven economy powered by Open Loot, an accessible gaming platform and ecosystem that is home to high-quality web3 games such as Moonfrost and Boss Fighters while making it easy for anyone to buy, sell, rent, and trade in-game NFTs through its own marketplace, which supports both crypto and fiat deposits. You can play Big Time as a free to play title during its Open Access period by downloading the launcher from the game’s official website only on Windows PCs, with an Epic Games Store release coming at some point in the future.
To fully unlock crafting-focused play to earn features however, you need to own NFTs such as virtual land called SPACE and have at least one type of Workshop NFT connected to your plot in order to begin crafting collectibles using $BIGTIME tokens and earnable in-game resources that have to be refined at a Workshop. That being said, participating in the new event does require crafting on-chain assets, so you can’t really participate in this one for free, but let’s see how it all actually works!
What Is Big Time’s Christmas in July Event?
Christmas in July is yet another crafting event that challenges players to climb to the top 200 spots on the leaderboard in order to win $BIGTIME rewards. A total of 1.2 million $BIGTIME tokens are up for grabs this time around, double that of the previous event, and the players that gain the most points from crafting eligible items will earn a share of one of the game’s biggest prize pools yet, with the winner set to receive 50k $BIGTIME tokens, which is worth around $2625 at the time of writing. The leaderboard went live on July 2 and will close on July 28 at 6 PM UTC.
During most of this month, the legendary weapons and armor from the 2024 Christmas Event are available once again, giving you another chance to complete your collection as you collect leaderboard points. Next to NFTs coming back with new challenges, Snowflakes are also back as a seasonal currency, and you can earn them through gameplay as well as purchase them through the marketplace. This currency is key to ranking up in this event, because Snowflakes give you leaderboard points and are needed for crafting Xmas weapons and decorations.
What makes this crafting event particularly different is the fact that all festive items can actually be crafted right away from the start. For the first time ever, you can even choose a new way to craft. Now you get to decide if you want to only use $BIGTIME tokens to craft or do it in combination with Time Crystals, which is the game’s non-crypto premium currency found in the game as a rare loot drop while of course being available as a direct purchase.
While all event items are available for crafting from the beginning, the supply for each recipe is still limited, so you’ll want to forge as many of the eligible assets as soon as possible if you want to get enough points for the top spots on the leaderboard. The good news though is that there seems to be dedicated supply for both ways of crafting, as shown in the table below. The developers will have these numbers updated throughout the event so you can figure out which item is best to craft next.
| Item | Amount available with $BIGTIME | Amount available with $BIGTIME + Time Crystals |
| Snowgrims Twilight Starcleaver (Common) | 3000 | 3000 |

Complete Weekly Challenge #1 to Top the Leaderboard!
As you craft to earn, you can also look forward to completing various weekly challenges, each of which contain missions that may award a significant number of leaderboard points. The first weekly challenge is now live until July 7, 6 PM UTC, and features two missions that revolve around opening 2 Scarecrow chests while crafting 2 Snowgrims Starcleaver of the Cascading Eclipse. If you open 2 Scarecrow chests, you will receive 1500 leaderboard points, but if you craft the aforementioned item twice, you win a whopping 15k points! As things currently stand, completing the second task easily puts you among the highest-ranked players for this event.
How to Play to Earn in Big Time’s Christmas in July Event
New players looking to play to earn in this crafting event can get started by downloading Big Time using the Open Loot Launcher. You'll then need to create an account via a social sign in option while holding enough $BIGTIME tokens and buying the necessary NFTs on the platform’s official marketplace that will enable you to start crafting items that award leaderboard points.
First off, you need SPACE, a virtual land that expands your personal metaverse. They come in different rarities and sizes, with the cheapest currently being the Rare Small SPACE for $6.80. You then need to attach Workshops to it, such as a Common Smoldering Forge for $1.35 and a Common Shrouded Armory for $1.35. The rarer the Workshops you get the better, as rarer NFTs allow you to craft assets of higher rarity, so you'll probably want to get rarer Workshops in order to have access to crafting more valuable exclusive items from this event. Purchases can be made by depositing funds on the platform, which supports crypto deposits such as USDC on Base alongside credit card and debit card deposits via Coinbase, Moonpay, and Ramp.
With these NFTs set up and with enough $BIGTIME tokens and Snowflakes, you’re ready to start crafting special digital collectibles to climb this event’s leaderboard. The amount of tokens needed to craft an item can vary from one collectible to another. Of course, you'll want to make sure you can actually play the game nicely before buying any assets. These are the official minimum system requirements, according to the game page in the launcher:
- OS: Windows 10
- CPU: Intel Core i5 4430 or AMD FX 6300
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 560
- Storage: 50 GB available space
Last month, players were able to craft to earn in Big Time's ‘It’s Almost Summer' event, which featured 600k $BIGTIME tokens up for grabs for the top 150 players.
