The Splinterlands team has announced that the mobile version of their well-known blockchain TCG is getting removed from app stores on April 2nd as the studio gears up to provide its community with the “best possible gaming experience.”
What’s Changing?
According to the recent announcement, the developers have decided to discontinue development of the mobile app for the time being, choosing to deprecate it on April 2nd, 2024, when it will no longer be available on app stores. The team encourages players who want to continue playing on the go to use their mobile browsers instead as they’re committed to creating a mobile-friendly website through which the community will be able to use all of the game’s features on both Android and iOS.
Mobile Website Benefits
The game’s official website on mobile is said to provide players with full access to features such as ranked play, tournaments, brawls, conflicts, land, card markets and other shops, and more. Essentially, by playing through a mobile browser, you will actually be able to enjoy features that were not available on the mobile app or were usable in a limited way, providing a better experience over the soon-to-be-deprecated mobile app.
To get the best experience on a mobile web browser, the official post states that you should use landscape mode, logging in to the official website just like you would if you were playing on desktop.
In the future, the developers plan on coming back to the app once they’ve added “the core components of the New Player Experience and upgraded other website functionality,” with the idea being to likely develop a website-wrapped version that will be available for download on app stores.
Earlier this month, Splinterlands introduced a revamped ranked battle system, while in February they announced the sale of Soulkeep to Double Coconut.
