The Splinterlands team has announced that Soulkeep, a tower defense game that has been in development over the course of last year, has officially been sold to developer Double Coconut, the studio that was working on the title in the first place.

Sale Details

By selling the game to the developer that’s been working on it, Splinterlands believes that this gives the upcoming title “the best chances of success” while providing the most long-term value they can to buyers of Nightmare packs.

The studio behind the well-known blockchain trading card game has stated that they are looking forward to seeing the acquirers lead the project throughout its launch and growth.

In the official announcement, it’s also mentioned that buyer Double Coconut is dedicated to releasing the game as soon as possible, after which they will continue to commit resources that will help in growing and continuously improving the Web3 title. Despite the game no longer being under ownership by the Splinterlands team, it has been clarified that the purchaser is “committed to continuing to use the Splinterlands game platform for Soulkeep, as originally planned,” meaning that players will be using the Splinterlands website, its market and third-party Splinterlands tools for opening packs and managing collections. That’s not all though – this also means that SPS, DEC, and Vouchers will also be used in the new game, providing further utility to these tokens.

The CEO of Double Coconut, David Fox, said the following in the official announcement:

“We are so happy to finally be launching this innovative tower defense title. Double Coconut is dedicated to growing Soulkeep into a preeminent and iconic web3 title. We strongly believe in the principals of ownership and community involvement that make Splinterlands a success, and are positive this game can add a new layers of fun and bring in different types of players.”

The new owners are now responsible for game design, economy design, customer support, community management and future sales, while the Splinterlands team will work with the developer in helping them integrate the game’s fungible tokens and NFTs with the Splinterlands platform, and that they hope this model will be usable for future Web3 titles that want to include Splinterlands assets.
