Yuga Labs, the creator of the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT (BAYC), has decided to refine its focus on blockchain gaming. The firm has transferred ownership of HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara, two of its game projects, to Faraway. This allows Yuga Labs to concentrate on developing its Otherside platform and the Bored Ape-themed game, Dookey Dash.
HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara, along with their NFT collections, will now be managed by Faraway, a game studio known for projects like Mini Royale: Nations and Serum City. Spencer Tucker, the former Chief Gaming Officer at Yuga, joins Faraway as the new Chief Product Officer. This shift aims to maintain continuity and leverage Tucker's expertise in game development.
The acquisition aligns with Yuga's strategy to focus its resources and storytelling on the 3D virtual world of Otherside. Greg Solano, Yuga Labs' co-founder, shared on Twitter that this move is meant to enhance their capabilities to deliver engaging experiences.
"This move is one step in making sure Yuga's gaming focus is razor-sharp on 3D Otherside, so we can be telling stories and delighting people there," said Solano. "I'll have more news to share on that front soon."
Even so, Yuga continues to manage prominent NFT collections such as BAYC and CryptoPunks. This realignment also allows them to improve interoperability within their ecosystem, which suggests an integrated approach to game development and NFT management.
The latest change marks a major shift in Yuga's business strategy, with the firm focusing more on its major titles. It reflects an ongoing trend in blockchain gaming, where studios streamline operations to better capitalize on the most successful projects.
