After initially introducing Perks back in May 2024, the developers of Wild Forest have now overhauled this feature with the introduction of a new Perks Rarity System, now live in the Ronin-powered free to play RTS game.
What Is the New Perks Rarity System in Wild Forest?
The new system revamps how Perks work by adding rarity levels to them. This means that almost all Perks now come in 3 different rarities, with the rarer versions providing better attributes.
There are 3 different rarity levels: Common (gray), Uncommon (green), and Rare (blue). Your Units have a 60% chance of getting Common, 30% Uncommon, and a 10% chance of securing a Rare Perk. This means that abilities that were previously Common now have a chance of appearing in the other two rarity levels, such as the Aggression Perk, which buffs damage by +10% as a Common Perk, but increases damage by +16.7% if it’s of Uncommon rarity, or +23.3% if you get the Rare variant.
Most abilities can be found across all 3 rarities, but the following listed here are exclusively available in only one of the new rarity levels:
- Common: Efficiency, Elusive, Massive
- Uncommon: Piercing Damage, Armor Destroyer
- Rare: Thunder God
The reason these are fixed is so that the team can ensure “consistency for specific abilities that are key to gameplay balance,” according to the official update post.
If you’ve already had Perks assigned to Units before this system was introduced, then don’t worry, as their stats will stay the same. Only their rarity level has changed in order to provide a balanced gameplay experience. Here are the abilities whose rarities have been upgraded:
- Siege: from Common to Uncommon.
- Skilled Healer: from Common to Uncommon.
- Vitality: from Common to Uncommon.
- Massive Healing: from Uncommon to Rare.
- Fire Range: from Common to Rare.
If your Units already had any of these before the update, you will only see their rarity upgraded, with their attributes remaining unaffected.
With this system, the developers are aiming to provide players with more customization options in creating a unique deck, adding further variety to gameplay and opening up potential new strategies to use to your advantage as you try to find out the best combination of Perks to bring into your tactical competitive matches. This also potentially affects how Units are priced on the Mavis Market, as players might look for Units with specific Perks if they’re not lucky enough to get the abilities they want when ranking up their own.

How to Unlock Perks in Wild Forest
Perks are passive abilities randomly assigned to your Units to provide useful bonuses that could be suited to your playstyle. You can get them by ranking up your Units to Epic, Legendary, and Mystic ranks. To rank up a Unit, you need to merge multiple in-game Units or Unit NFTs, and also pay a fee in $WF tokens, burning the Units used in the process. Perks are randomly unlocked, and each Unit can have up to 3 special abilities depending on which rank they are. For example, if a Unit is of Legendary rank, they’ll have 2 Perks.
Previously, Perks utilized a group system where some abilities were unlockable by any Unit, while some were restricted to certain Unit types, and others were only available to specific Units. That has now changed to a rarity system where every Unit of Epic rank and higher has a chance to randomly receive any available Perk.
According to the updated whitepaper, players will have the opportunity to re-roll Perks in a future update. There could end up being multiple reroll options in order to deliver “greater customization and strategy.”
Earlier this month, Wild Forest developer Zillion Whales launched a $WF Community Round, through which they successfully raised $2 million (with $6.7 million in open allocations requested!) before officially launching the $WF token on the Katana DEX.
