Developer Zillion Whales has officially updated its whitepaper for Wild Forest, giving the community an overview into various new features while publishing a roadmap teasing what’s next in store for the free to play Ronin-powered card RTS.
With this latest release, the whitepaper now covers everything you need to know about the strategic web3 game, adding info on updated mechanics and new features. These include details on the new seasonal Leaderboard system, updated Battle Pass, Castle Leasing, Lord Staking bonuses, increased $WF token utility, Perks overhaul, new Units rarity and level, updated Mint system, and even a new game mode: Expeditions.
As for complete tokenomics on the core $WF token, that is not yet available, but is planned to soon be released alongside more detailed info on a “Token Share” program and staking, according to the official X announcement.
Let’s have a look at some of the upcoming new additions!
Expeditions is an upcoming new idle game mode scheduled to launch in Q4 2024. In this mode, players can send at least one Unit on dangerous missions for a chance at earning useful resources that will be needed to craft new types of items. These items are said to further enhance the core gameplay experience by bringing new game loops that create a seamless gameplay loop which links this new mode with the main PvP mode for a more in-depth blockchain gaming experience.
By sending Units out on Expeditions, there is a risk of losing them forever, with Units of higher rank having better chances of successfully returning from the mission. Rewards from these missions depend on the number of Units that return, with the higher rank Units possibly bringing in more loot than the rest. As is the case with other crypto games that have this kind of idle gameplay, the missions in this new mode also take varying amounts of time to finish, keeping deployed Units locked until the mission is over. If they ever return, that is. While they’re locked though, you can’t do anything with them.
For the first release of Expeditions, the missions are said to be basic and require simple risk/reward management. You’ll be able to earn rewards already present in the game, alongside new resources that you will be able to use later on. Later on, the developers will look to introduce a “deeper meta layer” to the mode by providing a form of progression and more mission variety. This means that there will be a couple of locations you can send Units to for a chance at gaining varied rewards, with each successful Expedition increasing the difficulty level while making missions longer and thus more risky, but also more packed with valuable prizes. Over time, the team will add additional gameplay depth by introducing Unit specialties and missions that have specific requirements, making some Units potentially crucial to completing a mission.
The new Unit Mint system will let players turn their in-game Units into tradable NFTs by paying a mint fee with $WF tokens. To control supply inflation, a daily soft cap will be in place that causes the mint fee to increase the more mints there are in one day. This will reset every day, and it looks like the minting system will be made more accessible to all by introducing Free Mint Tokens to allow players to mint assets for free. These Free Mint Tokens will be earnable across different activities, but which ones and how exactly has not yet been revealed.
With the mint fee though, this means that the utility of $WF, both an on-chain and off-chain token, is expanding with more notable use cases. Next to minting NFTs, the token can also be used to rank-up Units, for making premium in-game purchases such as buying the Premium Battle Pass, but also for reaping the benefits of the upcoming Token Share program.
The Token Share program is a referral system that uses a percentage of spent tokens to reward referrers, referrals, and stakers. Most of the tokens will go to the referrer who invited the referral that spent tokens. Any spent tokens that aren’t distributed back are instead put inside the Token Share Pool, from which you will be able to earn a share of by staking $WF tokens.
The roadmap has been updated with bullet points covering milestones for Q4 2024. For this final quarter of the year, you could potentially look forward to a reworked leaderboard, updated Lord Staking system, adjustments to Fair Play rules, an extension to Unit rank and levels; the additions of a Unit mint fee, Perk re-roll, Token Share Program, Castle renting, Expeditions, and the ability to withdraw $WF. A similar roadmap was revealed last month with more specific timeframes, but those plans may or may not have changed slightly by now.
