Pudgy Penguins and Mythical Games rolled out their new mobile game, Pudgy Party, on August 29. Now available on both iOS and Android, the title brings the widely known Pudgy Penguins characters into a fast-moving multiplayer setting, combining party gameplay with web3 tech.
Built in partnership with Mythical Games, the studio behind Blankos Block Party, NFL Rivals, and FIFA Rivals, Pudgy Party brings the Pudgy Penguins IP to a global mobile audience. With its global release now live, players can jump into mini-games, collect digital items, and compete with friends while enjoying a seamless blockchain experience.
Pudgy Party: A New Type of Party Game
Pudgy Party drops players into a snowy, animated world filled with customizable penguin avatars. The game focuses on fun, quick-paced matches where players run, dodge, and race through a changing set of mini-games. These are built to offer a casual, lighthearted experience aimed at all age groups.
Game modes will switch often, with no match playing out the same way twice. Fast movement, quick reflexes, and a bit of chaos are key to winning. The visual style leans into cute designs and playful energy, in line with the well-known Pudgy Penguins aesthetic.
Custom Penguins and Digital Items
Customization plays a big role in Pudgy Party. Players can dress their penguins in different outfits, emotes, and accessories. These items come in two versions: NATs (non-tradable items) and LEs (limited edition tradable items).
Using a game item called a Talisman, players can mint NATs into LEs, which then become NFTs. These can be upgraded, fused, and sold or traded on Mythical's in-game NFT marketplace.
The whole process is powered by the Mythos Chain, a blockchain built on Polkadot. But for players, the system stays hidden unless they choose to engage with it.
As John Linden, CEO of Mythical Games, put it: "Every player that comes in, they're automatically onboarded into a wallet. They have a wallet, but most of them won't even know about it." He added that the web3 layer is "kind of just seamlessly behind it."
Launch Season: Dopameme Rush
Season 1 of Pudgy Party, titled "Dopameme Rush," kicked off at launch and leans into viral internet humor. This brainrot-themed event introduces meme-inspired skins like "Tung Tung Sahur," "John Pork," and "Ballerina Cappucina." The event follows a monthly cycle, offering both free and premium passes, global leaderboards, and limited-time rewards.
There are also open tournaments where players compete in real-time for leaderboard rankings and prizes. This feature is built to encourage high activity and give competitive players something to strive for every season.
Simple Web3 Integration
The use of blockchain in Pudgy Party is central to its backend but hidden from the user experience. Players earn items, level up their gear, and can even burn one collectible to craft another, all through onchain actions. But there is no need to connect a wallet manually or understand web3 to enjoy the game.
The approach is meant to attract both web2 and web3 players. Pudgy Party is free to download and play, with optional engagement in trading and minting.
As Linden explained: "You're suddenly getting assets and you're leveling them up, and you can change them and you can burn them for other things. All that's fairly hidden from the user initially."
Aiming for the Mainstream
This launch comes at a time when Pudgy Penguins is expanding far beyond its NFT roots. The brand now includes a popular toy line, available at Walmart and Target, and has gathered billions of views across social media. With the mobile game, the company hopes to grow even further.
Luca Netz, CEO of Pudgy Penguins, shared his goal for Pudgy Party: "It has to have, at a minimum, tens of millions of players and downloads," he said. "My hope is we can actually push and make this a top app on the App Store, period."
Netz believes the game could bring Pudgy Penguins into new areas of entertainment. "I think you're going to see some of the world's biggest streamers streaming Pudgy Party. I think you're going to see epic IRL events, huge campaigns, and tournaments and prize pools to bring people in," he told Decrypt in an interview.
Building a Long-Term Brand
Mythical Games sees Pudgy Party as the start of a long-term partnership. The studio is known for its earlier web3 games, which have reached millions of players globally. It's looking to do the same with Pudgy Penguins.
"We're after building a forever franchise with Luca," Linden said. "We want to help them take this into the gaming world and have something that can be around and played by literally hundreds of millions of people over a period of time."
Pudgy Party is designed to be a game that can grow with its audience. New seasons, events, and costumes are expected to roll out regularly, with a focus on fun, competition, and collection.
Where to Download
Pudgy Party is free to download and available globally on both the Apple App Store and Google Play as of August 29. Players can follow @pudgypenguins and @playmythical on X for future game updates and event announcements.
The game uses the Mythical Platform for scalable performance and built-in blockchain support. While players don't need to worry about crypto wallets or NFT terms, those who do engage with the system can mint their items and trade them in the marketplace.
With smooth entry for casual gamers and built-in tech for crypto users, Pudgy Party is taking a new approach to what a web3 game can be.
