Web3 gaming studio Valeria Games has announced that it has run out of funds, halting development and support for both its flagship mobile game and trading card game (TCG). The shocking news comes just two weeks after the end of Season 1 of Valeria: Land Before the War, leaving many players feeling blindsided.
The Announcement That Sparked Outrage
In a statement on X, the Valeria Games team broke the news to its community:
"This is a tough message to write, but unfortunately, our team has run out of funds, and we'll be suspending development and support for both our mobile game and TCG. For now, we'll be keeping the game live a little longer while we search for investors or potential buyers."
The message, while expressing gratitude for the community's support, confirmed that the previously planned $LOV TGE is indefinitely on hold. The team also stated that they are actively looking for funding solutions to revive the project, but players are already losing faith.
A Community Blindsided
The backlash was swift. Many players questioned how the company could suddenly run out of funds just two weeks after celebrating major milestones, including a P2A (play-to-airdrop) campaign that allegedly saw over 20 million transactions and 100,000+ unique active wallets on XAI.
Wolves DAO member Cesar Martinez didn't hold back, calling out the project on X:
"You don't find out you run out of funds out of nowhere. It's not something you DON’T see coming. This is something the team must have known ahead of time."
"You're telling me you didn’t know two weeks ago that you ran out of funds, that there would be no airdrop for the 100,000 (your quote) unique wallets who grinded and spent money for a promise that you knew you couldn't deliver on?"
From Web3 Success Story to Sudden Collapse
Valeria Games, formerly known as Antebellum Games, entered the web3 gaming space in 2022 with a bold vision: to integrate blockchain gaming, physical TCGs, and digital collectibles into a seamless ecosystem.
Key Milestones Before the Collapse
- 2022: Partnered with notable NFT projects like Creepz and Kaiju Kingz.
- 2023: Expanded into webcomics, drawing 300,000+ reads in a week, and launched a prototype physical trading card game.
- December 2023: Launched the Founder's Set collection, which sold out in 23 seconds.
- October 2024: Official launch of Valeria: Land Before the War, a Pokémon-style real-time strategy mobile game.
- 2024 Migration to XAI: The company migrated to XAI's Layer 3 chain, aiming for lower fees and enhanced on-chain functionality.
Given these milestones and revenue-generating events, many in the web3 space are questioning how the team ran out of funds so suddenly.
Rug Pull or Mismanagement?
The timing of Valeria Games' shut down has fueled skepticism among web3 players. The team had been teasing major announcements and new partnerships with platforms like Moca Network, creating hype around the game's future. Just two weeks before shutting down, they were actively promoting their success left and right.
Now, with no refunds, no airdrop, and no real answers, many suspect foul play.
Whether this was outright fraud or simply poor financial management, one thing is clear: Valeria's credibility has taken a massive hit.
What's Next for Valeria Players?
For now, the game remains online, but there is no roadmap for its future. The team is seeking investors or potential buyers, though it's unclear whether this will happen anytime soon. Meanwhile, players are left in limbo, with no official word on refunds, compensation, or the previously promised airdrop. It remains to be seen if the team will make a comeback after this.
