Upland has rolled out its 2.0 rebrand, a major platform update that introduces a refreshed brand identity, a redesigned website, and a renewed emphasis on digital property ownership and city-scale development.

What Is Upland?

Upland is a virtual property trading and city-building game and metaverse where players can own, trade, and develop digital land mapped to the real world. Properties in Upland are tied to real geographic locations, allowing players to participate in a digital economy that mirrors aspects of real estate strategy.

The core appeal of Upland lies in combining collection with utility. Players do not simply acquire properties as static assets. Instead, they can build, trade, and integrate them into larger cityscapes that are shaped by community activity. Whether it is purchasing a first plot of land or managing a district with multiple holdings, Upland positions ownership as having lasting impact within a shared digital environment.

The platform has grown into a wider ecosystem since its launch, incorporating trading, development, and community events. Yet at its center, Upland remains focused on its original idea: a game where ownership of digital properties connected to real-world cities forms the basis of play and strategy.

What's New in Upland 2.0?

With Upland 2.0, the team has introduced both visual changes and strategic clarity. The upgrade includes a redesigned website with a refreshed layout, as well as a new logo and brand identity that emphasize real-world city building and ownership.

The rebranding is more than cosmetic. According to the official X announcement, Upland 2.0 is intended to double down on the ecosystem's roots in property ownership and city development. The update frames Upland as not just a digital game but as a player-driven landscape where strategy, trade, and development influence the long-term direction of the platform. The team’s goal isn’t only to make it fun to collect properties in a virtual world based on real cities, but to bring value and importance to those digital properties, which can be traded and developed “as part of a shared digital landscape that mirrors real geography and rewards smart strategy.”

“Whether you're flipping your first plot or managing a growing district, Upland is a game where ownership has lasting impact.”

The team stated that Upland 2.0 is about “clarity” and about focusing on what makes the project distinct. The platform is not attempting to be “everything to everyone” but rather refining its role as a city builder rooted in real-world geography. As a result, they’ve been spending the past couple of days bringing updated messaging across the project’s social media channels such as Discord to accordingly reflect the long-term vision of the 2.0 revamp.

“As the platform has grown, so has the ecosystem, and this update helps new and existing players better understand what Upland is all about: property ownership, player-driven economy, and city-scale development. It’s not about being everything to everyone. It’s about building the most dynamic and rewarding city builder ever created, one that's rooted in the real world and shaped by its players.”

As part of the rollout, Upland confirmed that its co-founders will soon host a live AMA. This session will give the community the opportunity to hear directly about the platform’s evolution, what has changed, what remains the same, and how Upland plans to keep players and property owners at the center of its future growth. An exact time and date for the AMA does not seem to have been provided at the time of writing.

How to Play and Earn in Upland

At its foundation, Upland is a web3-powered city builder about owning and managing digital properties tied to real-world cities. Players can purchase land parcels, trade them with others, and develop them as part of a growing metaverse.

Gameplay is structured around three main activities: property ownership, trading, and city-scale development.

Players acquire plots of virtual land mapped to real locations. These properties can be bought, sold, and held as part of larger strategies. Ownership is not limited to collections, as properties can be developed and incorporated into broader city-building activities.

The game's player-driven economy revolves around trading properties and making strategic exchanges shape the market. The latest update further highlights that ownership and transactions contribute to a dynamic ecosystem, giving value to both individual plots and larger holdings.

Beyond individual ownership, Upland emphasizes city-building on a larger scale. Players can collaborate and compete within districts, manage multiple holdings, and influence how shared digital cities evolve. Strategic management, such as controlling growing districts, becomes a key part of progression.

Earning in Upland comes from, buying, trading, and developing digital properties, in order to potentially benefit from market opportunities and strategic play. You can earn UPX every couple of hours from holding properties, with the amount varying depending on the property’s initial value, while completing collections can boost your earnings further. UPX is the game’s in-game utility token used to trade properties and mint new ones. It’s not possible to trade UPX outside the game, but it is the only currency that allows you to mint new properties. As you acquire properties using UPX, you can earn real money by listing properties for sale in USD, thanks to a digital NFT-to-USD program. As Upland grows, city-scale activities such as development and player-driven markets provide more avenues for long-term engagement and rewards. This means that not only can players earn by flipping properties, but it’s also possible to take part in various other events, such as seasonal $SPARKLET Warz, where players can play to earn $SPARKLET, the game’s on-chain token available in-game and on Ethereum and Base networks, with players needing to use it to fuel vehicles for travel, manufacture other NFT assets, and more.

Upland has been around since 2019, with its global community generating $20m+ in real-world value to date through its open economy variety of different ways, including flipping properties, competing for UPX, creating goods, and selling assets. In 2023, Upland raised $7m for its web3 metaverse. It’s available as a free to play title and can be played on PC via web browsers as well as on Android and iOS mobile devices through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store respectively.
