Web3 game Undead Blocks is actually back thanks to a new partnership with Blackhole. This is the game’s first Avalanche DEX partner, and is of course the chain on which developer Wagyu Games is planning to relaunch the blockchain title. Let’s take a look at the team’s upcoming plans and how they’re enhanced by the new collaboration. Before that, here’s a quick recap of the game, or what it used to be at least.
In case you’re not familiar, Undead Blocks is a zombie survival FPS that previously soft launched as a “kill-to-earn" game on Ethereum and Immutable networks. The play to earn title was downloadable for free on Windows PCs in 2022, and later on was supposed to launch on mobile in 2023, including Android and iOS, but it doesn’t seem that ever actually happened.
Players were able to enjoy action-packed zombie-slaying gameplay across various different game modes: Solo, Squads, Speedrun, and Massacre. The first two modes had you survive waves of endless zombies alone or in squads of up to 4 players, while Speedrun was all about clearing a certain number of waves as fast as possible, and Massacre challenged you to get the highest number of zombie kills within a specific timeframe.
While the game was free to play, anyone looking to play and earn needed to own an NFT to unlock VIP Solo, as that’s where you could earn Gold ZBUX, the primary reward token that was pegged to $0.10. You could also earn it from in-game achievements and tournaments. It was redeemable for various cryptocurrencies, and you could use it to buy rare skins and power-ups. Free to play players could earn Standard ZBUX, which is an uncapped off-chain token used for getting new weapons and upgrading them. The NFT unlocking P2E features in question is from the Undead Blocks Genesis Weapons collection, which you can find on OpenSea on the Ethereum network for the floor price of 0.02 ETH, though you may want to wait for the relaunch to find out if utility has been affected. These NFTs feature different sets of weapons and weapon skins to use in VIP Solo, so while some NFTs give you a M1911 and a combat knife, others come with an AKM, double barrel shotgun, hand grenades, and even different perks to make you even more powerful and give you a higher chance of winning more crypto rewards.
The game also has its own $UNDEAD governance token which you can find on Uniswap, with the link to that and the official contract address available on the game’s official website.
Last year, web3 gaming studio Wagyu Games announced a strategic acquisition of Undead Blocks from Adonis Software, and they’ve been working since then on fully overhauling this blockchain FPS to improve overall gameplay and provide a better web3 gaming experience. It looks like we are now close to seeing that revamp come to life.
Blackhole announced a collaboration with Wagyu Games on July 2 to bring the relaunch of Undead Blocks on their platform, which effectively means that the game is transitioning over to Avalanche, home to Gunzilla Games’ Off The Grid.
Following the partnership announcement, the developers shared some of the future plans they have in store for their zombie FPS. Not a lot of detailed info was revealed, but the team has stated that they’re relaunching the game with Blackhole as their first Avalanche DEX partner, meaning that the $UNDEAD token is coming to the high-performance blockchain platform.
Next to bridging the $UNDEAD token, the blockchain gaming community can expect a variety of new content with the game relaunch, including new maps, weapons, and play to earn tournaments. Outside the game itself, the team plans on doing co-marketing and trading competitions to incentivize users to use the game’s token.
While that’s all that’s been announced in the latest X post, it looks like the game’s whitepaper has actually been updated with a new 2025 roadmap a day before the announcement. Let’s check it out!
The 2025 roadmap provides a lot more insight into the developer’s upcoming plans for Undead Blocks than the above announcement. That is assuming the milestones listed are still relevant, but considering the roadmap page on the whitepaper was updated a day before the partnership announcement, I think it’s safe to say that most of the plans listed are very much relevant to what the developers are currently working on.
That being said, this roadmap not only contains milestones for Q3 and Q4 2025, but it also includes plans for the first two quarters of 2026.
For Q3 2025, the team has divided milestones into 3 categories: infrastructure & optimization, game development, and ecosystem expansion.
When it comes to infrastructure, the team is looking to migrate servers from AWS over to Google Cloud to improve performance while optimizing zombie UI and enhancing the Neighborhood map.
In terms of game development, the goal is to resume Gold ZBUX earning while working on improving Duos & Squads. There are also plans to add in new characters and weapon skins, as well as launch sponsored tournaments with partners, start development of a mobile version of the game, and work on the “Neighborhood Extension” with the Mall map.
As for ecosystem expansion, the plan is to list the $UNDEAD token on a new CEX and DEX, launch the Wagyu Games Marketplace, start development of Wagyu’s Rental Marketplace, launch the “Undead Pivot Protocol”, begin development of a stake-to-mint platform, and migrate the IMX Skin Collection over to “a new blockchain”, which now very much seems to be the Avalanche network.
Moving on to Q4 2025, the developers want to expand gameplay with new in-game challenges and new character NFT skins while launching a limited Apocalypse Weapon NFT collection and releasing the Extended Neighborhood map. You can also look forward to weekly and monthly tournaments in which both VIP and “public” (likely meaning non-NFT) players will be able to participate in!
In the final quarter of this year, there are also plans to start creating a new Graveyard map, introduce “Music Jukebox integration,” and integrate and test the “Blood Box” system. More plans in Q4 include integrating Invo Technologies for a better user experience while beginning work on Genesis & Apocalypse Weapon upgrades.
In 2026, the team may launch and beta test the Mall map in Q1 while releasing the Music Jukebox in-game, beta testing Squads Mode and integrating partner character NFTs. In the same quarter, the plan is to release Genesis & Apocalypse Weapon upgrades, fully launch the mobile version of Undead Blocks, develop a battle pass system, create an in-game store with credit and debit card payment options, and begin development of “Squads Mobile”.
Last but not least, Q2 2026 could come with the launch of Squads Mobile and the Graveyard map, an expansion of the battle pass system with new NFTs, and the release of character clothing and accessory NFT drops.
The roadmap ends with the following note:
“Wagyu Games’ roadmap for 2025 & 2026 promises a transformative year for Undead Blocks with major feature rollouts, gameplay expansions, and new player rewards. Stay tuned for updates as we bring these milestones to life!”
