After leaving Arbitrum to launch a gaming layer 2 chain on ZKsync, decentralized game publisher Treasure has unveiled its newest game: Warlock Paper Scissors.
Warlock Paper Scissors is a fully on-chain competitive 2D game that blends turn-based combat with battle royale and extraction gameplay to deliver an intense and tactical blockchain gaming experience that is said to be void of randomness.
In this pixelated web3 game, the goal is to take the crystal from the center of the map, and be the first to escape with it alive to win the match. Or you can just destroy everyone instead, that works too. To do this, you'll be making strategic moves each turn, but you won't have to wait for a player to finish their turn before you can take yours. Instead, everyone simultaneously takes their turn at the same time, and once all players have confirmed their actions, everything is revealed at a sequential manner. Since everyone’s moves are only revealed at the end of each turn, this requires you to carefully plan out your moves while thinking ahead and predicting the actions of your opponents, leading to challenging, deterministic gameplay.
While this sounds as if you might have to wait a while for everyone to confirm their turn, the game is said to be designed to deliver fast-paced sessions in which you can use various fantasy abilities to take out other players as you try to capture and escape with the shiny loot, or burn everyone in the process.
Not only is the blockchain title designed to give you enjoyable and quick strategic action, but it’s also made to be moddable and overall focused on user-generated content (UGC). This means that anyone will be able to create new maps and potentially even NFT skins and abilities, with all these community-made creations helping create “viral social gameplay.” There might even be big tournaments with large prize pools to play to earn for!
Incubated by crypto venture RockawayX, you can look forward to Warlock Paper Scissors launching on Treasure in early 2025. Next to this timeframe and all the gameplay details above, that’s all that seems to have been revealed so far, with the end of the official thread teasing that we can look forward to hearing “much more” about this interesting title in the new year. Keep an eye on the game’s official X profile to find out when their Discord server opens, as well as when the web3 title becomes available for the public. Announcements for both are planned to be made soon.
Following the official reveal, Treasure announced the release of its final two digital collectible cartridges, one of which is for this upcoming game. You have until December 31st, 11:59 PM ET to collect the game as a tradable NFT, in celebration of the ecosystem’s launch as a decentralized game console and permissionless layer 2 chain that uses Ethereum as the settlement layer. This is actually a free mint, so you only need a bit of $MAGIC to cover the gas fee. You can also free mint cartridges representing various other games as well, including The Beacon, Zeeverse, Wanderers, and more. If you collect them all, you have a chance of winning 420 $MAGIC tokens. There are a total of 15 cartridges available for minting. You can also earn a share of the 69,420 $MAGIC prize pool, which is set to be distributed to the community behind the most minted cartridge. The cartridges are minted on the ecosystem’s own chain, and you can only mint one cartridge per game.
