Toyota Australia has launched a new Web3 and non-fungible token (NFT) program for owners of the GR Yaris Rallye. The program, called GR-ID, offers a variety of rewards and benefits to NFT holders, including a $50 VISA Digital gift card, the opportunity to evolve the design of their NFT, and access to exclusive experiences and events.
GR-ID NFTs are minted on Immutable X, an advanced layer-2 scaling solution for NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. The minting of the GR-ID NFTs is available at no cost to eligible individuals, and the overall count of NFTs in the collection will be determined by the quantity minted during the designated phase. Each GR-ID NFT boasts a distinctive array of attributes that capture the essence and dynamism of the GR Yaris Rallye. These attributes include the vehicle's color, number of kilometers driven, and performance data. NFT holders can also customize the appearance of their NFT by adding stickers, decals, and other accessories.
In addition to the initial benefits, GR-ID NFT holders will also be able to earn additional rewards by participating in a variety of activities, such as driving their GR Yaris Rallye, completing challenges, and referring friends to the program. Toyota plans to add new rewards and benefits to the GR-ID program on a regular basis. The launch of the GR-ID program marks Toyota's first foray into the Web3 and NFT space. However, it is not the first automotive brand to embrace these technologies. In July, Hyundai launched an NFT membership club for owners of the IONIQ 6 electric vehicle. And in March, Mercedes-Benz announced plans to create a metaverse for its customers.
The automotive industry is just one of many sectors that is exploring the potential of Web3 and NFTs. These technologies offer a new way for businesses to connect with customers, create new revenue streams, and build brand loyalty. It will be interesting to see how Toyota and other automotive brands use GR-ID and other Web3 initiatives to engage with their customers in the years to come.
