Toncoin Becomes Gram
The native token of The Open Network is now called Gram. The TON Foundation confirmed the rebrand, moving the ticker from TON to GRAM at 8:00 PM UTC today, June 15, 2026. Wallets and exchanges are set to update the token name and icon at that time.
The switch is purely a name and branding change. For holders, the conversion runs automatically at a fixed rate of 1 TON equals 1 GRAM. No claim page, no bridge, and no manual steps are involved. Balances simply show the new ticker once the change rolls through each platform.
The blockchain keeps its existing identity. The network is still The Open Network, and only the token's name, ticker, and icon are being updated. The underlying technology, token supply, contract addresses, and user holdings remain untouched.
The Community Vote Behind the Change
The rebrand was approved by an onchain community vote, which passed with 81.22 percent support. The decision returns the asset to its original name, Gram, which was first attached to the project during its earliest days under the Telegram team.
The move follows public support from Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, who advocated for bringing back the Gram branding. The foundation framed the change as a way to honor the project's roots while reclaiming the brand equity tied to the Gram name.
Why the Token Was Renamed Twice
The Gram token was originally designed as the native currency for Telegram's blockchain platform. After intervention from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, Telegram stepped away from the project in 2020. The community-led TON Foundation later renamed the token to Toncoin to distance the asset from the legal dispute.
That case was eventually settled. Telegram agreed to return 1.2 billion USD to investors and pay a civil penalty of 18.5 million USD. With the dispute resolved and the ecosystem grown, the foundation views the return to Gram as a way to unify the project's identity under one name.
A Rebrand, Not a Migration
The TON ecosystem has been clear on one point. There is no migration, no claim portal, no bridge process, and no token swap tied to the rename. Any website, bot, or message asking users to claim GRAM, convert TON to GRAM, or migrate their tokens is fraudulent.
Projects across the ecosystem have been asked to display the asset as "Gram (prev. Toncoin)" during a three-month transition window to limit confusion. After that period, applications may show the token as Gram or GRAM only. Full consistency across ecosystem projects is expected by June 22, 2026. Exchanges have also been told to update their existing listing rather than create a new asset entry.
How Exchanges Are Handling the Switch
While the rebrand goes live today, individual platforms are running their own schedules for the changeover. Binance, the largest exchange by trading volume, confirmed support for the rename. The exchange will delist all existing TON spot trading pairs at 3:00 AM UTC on June 30, 2026, at which point open orders on those pairs are automatically canceled.
Binance plans to begin trading for the renamed token at 8:00 AM UTC on July 2, 2026, launching seven initial GRAM pairs. Deposits and withdrawals for the old ticker close on June 30, with GRAM services opening on July 2. Holders on Binance do not need to act, since the platform handles the 1 to 1 swap internally.
Bybit has set several of its own deadlines. TON will be removed from Bybit Convert and the Convert Small Balances tool at 8:00 AM UTC on June 16, 2026. Active Spot Grid Bots and DCA Bots running on TON pairs will be terminated automatically at the same time, and TON support for Bybit Pay was suspended from 6:00 AM UTC on June 15, 2026. Traders using bots have been advised to close positions manually before the cutoff.
Other platforms have published their own windows. Mudrex suspended TON trading on June 15, 2026, with GRAM balances credited and trading resuming on June 23, 2026. KuCoin is delisting certain TON contracts tied to its copy trading tools, settling open positions at 6:00 AM UTC on the delisting date. Across all of these, the conversion rate stays fixed at 1 TON to 1 GRAM.
TON and the Onchain Gaming Scene
The Open Network has become a major home for lightweight onchain games and tap-to-earn titles delivered through Telegram mini-apps. Millions of users have engaged with play-to-earn experiences built directly inside the messaging app, making the network a notable player in casual crypto gaming. The rebrand touches every one of those apps that references the token, since each will need to surface the new Gram name and ticker over the transition period.
For players and developers in that space, the practical impact is small. In-game balances, rewards, and token holdings carry over unchanged under the same 1 to 1 rule that applies everywhere else. The shift is cosmetic at the wallet level, with the main task falling on apps and storefronts to update labels rather than on individual users.
What Holders Should Expect
For most token holders, the change requires nothing. Balances in wallets and on exchanges update on their own as each service adopts the new ticker. There are no fees and no migration steps. In many jurisdictions, a rename without a swap is not treated as a taxable event, since one asset is not being exchanged for another, though tax rules vary by country.
Price aggregators are expected to fall in line as exchanges formally adopt the new ticker. Services like CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap typically refresh their listings as the rollout spreads, a process that can take a few weeks after the official switch.
The foundation has stressed that the update applies only to labels and branding, not to the network's consensus, token supply, addresses, contract state, or balances. With the ticker flipping to GRAM at 8:00 PM UTC today and full ecosystem alignment targeted for June 22, 2026, the project returns to the name it started with more than six years ago.
