Notcoin, a P2E game on Telegram powered by TON (The Open Network) is said to have accrued a userbase of more than 4 million players in just 1 week since its official launch, an impressive number not achieved as quickly by any other blockchain title so far.
Notcoin is a simple free clicker game running inside a Telegram Mini App in which you tap a TON-based meme coin of the same name. Made by an unknown team with no past experience on large projects, the tap-to-earn title initially came out in mid-November 2023 with essentially barely any information you’d expect from a Web3 title, as it was basically a meme coin with no expectations. As the team itself described it, “Notcoin is probably nothing.”
Yet despite its vagueness, Notcoin garnered the attention of more than 650k users during the beta, mining more than 60 billion Notcoin. The full version went live on the first day of this year, with the announcement claiming that in just one week, the game attracted an astonishing 4.1 million players, who have together mined around 1.2 trillion Notcoin. This essentially means that this meme game reached more than a million users faster than ChatGPT did. On a more related note, the game managed to garner a playerbase of more than 500k users in its first month faster than the likes of crypto gaming sensations Axie Infinity and STEPN.
To play, simply open the Telegram app and search for Notcoin to find a bot that will let you access the game as a Telegram Mini App.
From there all you have to do is simply tap on the big Notcoin icon to mine the coin. Whenever you tap, you use up your energy, which recharges over time. At the beginning, you will get 1 Notcoin per tap, but you can increase this using upgrades called Boosts. There are various Boosts you can spend your Notcoin on. Next to increasing the quantity of coins per tap, you can also up the energy limit per session, as well as upgrade the recharging speed.
There are other mechanics in place too, such as Boosters, Squads, and more. Boosters can provide benefits such as a temporary increase of Notcoin per tap, while Squads are Telegram group channels that encourage community engagement and competition, with each squad having their own daily and weekly leaderboards.
Notcoin has not yet been minted as a token at the time of writing, making it purely an in-game currency with no real-world value for the time being. Whether it will actually launch as a token is yet to be seen, though both CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap have already listed it.
