Otherworld Brings ‘Solo Leveling’ to The Sandbox
The "Otherworld: Solo Leveling" event offers players the chance to explore and earn rewards. Players can dive into three unique experiences, each offering its own set of quests and challenges. By completing 43 quests, players unlock a share of two reward pools:
- 50K SAND Pool: This is for Solo Leveling: Unlimited avatar owners who complete the quests.
- 15K SAND Pool: Open to all players who complete the in-game quests.
Where to Begin
Players can start their adventure in any of the three exciting experiences. Here's a quick look at each of them:
- Otherworld ‘Official’: This experience lets you explore 23 different webtoon IPs. Choose 'Experience Mode' to complete quests or 'Game Mode' for tower defense battles.
- Second Life Ranker XP: Dive into the world of "Second Life Ranker," a top webtoon IP. This experience immerses players in the story, making it feel like you're part of the webtoon.
- Solo Leveling—Unlimited: Collect Essence Stones to unlock exclusive NFT cards in this thrilling experience.
Exclusive Avatars and Characters
In partnership with Otherworld, The Sandbox has released limited-edition avatars based on "Solo Leveling." The Sung Jin-Woo avatar captures the heroism and fighting spirit of the protagonist. There are 1,560 voxel avatars available, each representing different facets of Sung Jin-Woo. Fans can embody their favorite hero and enjoy a unique gaming experience.
What is Otherworld?
Otherworld is a Web3 social protocol that allows developers to build or integrate social applications. It uses IP rights from top entertainment firms to create a decentralized content universe. Otherworld has exclusive Web3 rights to 26 webtoon IPs, including hits like "Solo Leveling" and "Second Life Ranker." They also collaborate with K-pop artists through Cube Entertainment.
The Sandbox and Otherworld announced their strategic partnership back in March 2024. This partnership aims to establish a metaverse webtoon hub offering a range of experiences based on popular KakaoPage IPs. The first IP to enter The Sandbox is Solo Leveling. This webtoon delves into the life of protagonist Sung Jin-Woo alongside NFT integrations. Shortly after, beloved IPs such as Second Life Ranker, Tomb Raider King, and Spirit King Elqueeness will follow suit.
In June 2024, Otherworld partnered with Avalanche to launch "Solo Leveling: Unlimited" (SL:U), a new digital collectibles platform. It offers digital collectibles and interactive storytelling, where users earn prizes based on their platform usage. Players encounter dungeon gates, and by using digital keys, they can open these gates to win prizes like monster cards or essence stones.
The Phenomenon of Solo Leveling
"Solo Leveling" is a South Korean web novel by Chugong, serialized on KakaoPage since 2016. It was later published by D&C Media and licensed in English by Yen Press. The webtoon adaptation, illustrated by Jang Sung-rak, first appeared in 2018 and concluded its second season in 2021. The series has been immensely popular, with individual chapters collected into 11 volumes by June 2024.
The story revolves around Sung Jin-Woo, a weak hunter who gains the unique ability to level up in strength after surviving a deadly dungeon. He discovers his powers are tied to the mysterious System and sets out to uncover the secrets of the dungeons. His journey reveals his destiny as the Shadow Monarch, a powerful being who can control the dead. Unlike other Monarchs, Jin-Woo fights to save humanity.
A Growing Universe
The "Solo Leveling" universe continues to expand. An anime adaptation aired from January to March 2024, with a second season titled "Arise from the Shadow" announced. A Korean drama adaptation and a spin-off webtoon, "Solo Leveling: Ragnarok," are in the works, with the latter set to premiere on August 1st. A role-playing video game titled "Solo Leveling: Arise" has also been released by Netmarble.
