The Sandbox has partnered with MetaFight to create an exclusive MMA experience that will be available for a limited time only.
MetaFight is an MMA management game with real fighters, and this upcoming metaverse experience will be separate but complementary to the blockchain title, with the experience set to feature original quests and rewards coupled with unique gameplay. In the game outside the voxel-based metaverse, players get to play as an MMA fighter who teaches competitive mixed martial arts combat, building their own gym while getting and training various fighters to use to compete again rosters made by other players in an effort to gain various rewards.
In the exclusive metaverse experience, players will get to go outside the gym, actively fighting enemies while completing quests and enjoying social features. A leaderboard score will be set in place to track player progress and in turn give everyone a chance to fight for rewards during the duration of the event.
Sebastien Borget, the COO and co-founder of The Sandbox, said the following in the official announcement:
“MMA is a sport with strong global appeal and we’re excited to bring its spirit to The Sandbox with MetaFight. This partnership plays to both of our strengths with MetaFight’s knowledge of MMA gaming and our expansive metaverse and unique gameplay opportunities.”
No exact details on when the experience will go live seem to be available at the time of writing. The announcement post teases interested players to stay tuned for further information.
Earlier this year, Ciryl Gane, a French professional mixed martial artist, MMA Heavyweight Champion and Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion, joined MetaFight as an investor and brand ambassador.
Last month, The Sandbox held the Singapore Partner Day event, bringing many different popular brands across the country together, with the goal of setting up a home for them in the metaverse in the future with the launch of Lion City, a neighborhood of 512 LANDs.
