Is Pokémon going into NFTs?
The Pokémon Company International, a subsidiary of The Pokémon Company in Japan, seems to be delving into Web3.
According to its most recent job posting, the firm is looking for a Corporate Development Principal with a deep understanding of Web3, including blockchain technologies, NFT, and the metaverse. The chosen candidate will advise the company's leadership on strategy and explore new innovations in the industry.
The firm is looking for someone who is already immersed in the space, asking for applicants that are "deeply connected to a network of investors and entrepreneurs in the technology sectors above (Web3 and metaverse)." Candidates must also have a "total work experience of 12+ years, with a minimum of 7+ years in corporate development at a technology, gaming, media, or entertainment company."
While this does not provide a clear sense of what Pokémon intends to do in Web3, many speculate that the company will eventually bring its flagship entertainment franchise to the blockchain space.
Pokémon is a household name that needs no introduction. It has been around for over 25 years and has a massive fan base all over the world. The brand has succeeded in various media, including video games, anime, trading cards, etc. With the rise of Web3, it appears that the company is prepared to enter this new frontier, allowing fans to own a piece of the brand experience.
As of writing, The Pokémon Company remains tight-lipped on its potential Web3 ventures. It remains unclear whether the firm will create its own blockchain game or release digital collectibles based on the popular franchise. It will be interesting to see how Pokémon continues to evolve and innovate in the coming years.
