Dogecoin recently unveiled its free to play game Super Doginals. The arcade-style beat-’em-up game is inscribed on the Dogecoin blockchain. The game’s launch comes at a time when Dogecoin is resurging in demand and popularity, with the coin once again reaching the trending section of social media platforms.
Creators at Pimax shared “ I created Super Doginals as a tribute to Doge spirit and playful culture while adding my own touch to it.”
Super Doginals is an arcade-styled game with three key characters, Kabo, Swole, and Cream, who ultimately fight their way ahead in the journey to stop Rugstar the Wolf from stealing the moon. It’s a blockchain-based brawler game where each character is also represented in NFT form and is central to the ecosystem.
The characters can also be upgraded and traded giving them additional utility and mechanism for engaging with the Dogecoin blockchain. The game is built on a similar level as other blockchain-based games, offering a fun-filled environment with a mechanism for engaging with the Web3 ecosystem.
The game has 14 levels, and each one gets progressively difficult, with multiple enemy characters coming forward to stop the chosen hero from proceeding further. Players have the option to play alone or with four other characters in the co-op mode.
Super Doginals uses blockchain inscriptions, which is a direct method for encoding data directly onto the blockchain. While the mechanism was introduced a few years back, it gained prominence after projects like Bitcoin Ordinals.
Here, data is transcribed onto the blockchain, similar to how a message is embedded into a piece of information or transaction. With Super Doginals, the inscriptions technology allows players to embed the game’s components, including NFTs, metadata, and gameplay scripts on the blockchain.
Through inscription technology, the Dogecoin blockchain can support games with better graphics and applications with a higher bandwidth. Furthermore, leveraging this capability. Dogecoin blockchain can handle complex transactions, which once again opens up high-capacity processes and transactions.
This is possible because Pimax broke the game into different parts, including the game’s engine, assets, and utility functions. All these components were inscribed separately and then combined to build a single playable game.
Super Doginals is an expandable game, which means users can build on it further, reuse the existing assets, and even create a new game from scratch. Developers can access OpenBOR-WASM from the Super Doginals GitHub repository.
OpenBOR-WASM provides a customizable engine to create 2D side-scrolling games. Once created, the users can play the game in web browsers. From adding new features to harnessing the engine’s capabilities, developers can make expandable games by reusing the existing assets or creating custom ones on the Dogecoin blockchain.
Super Doginals is also built onthe OpenBOR engine, and the lightweightedness of this engine has proven crucial for the game’s success. Because the game is built on OpenBOR, it justifies the retro pixel art and pixelated characters, as they don’t require too much space for data storage.
Users can play Super Doginals on desktop, mobile, and tablet using device-based controls or a game controller. To play it on the desktop, open the game’s link in any web browser.
