Sumo Digital Making Mobile Games for Flow Blockchain

Sumo Digital Leamington studio will be working with Dapper Labs on mobile games on the Flow blockchain. However, they haven't revealed any details about the upcoming projects. Studio director Chris Southall mentioned that they will reveal details about their productions soon.

Southall is excited about working with Dapper Labs. “The opportunities offered by blockchain in leveraging digital assets truly owned by our players, with utility across a number of applications, are many and varied. It’s fantastic to be working with Dapper on the truly fresh experiences which this technology enables", he said in an official statement.

Dapper Labs holds licenses for intellectual property that could be used for the new Sumo Digital mobile game on Flow. For example, they have their own Cryptokitties brand, even though that's probably something they work on themselves. NBA Top Shot just launched in open beta, which leaves us with brands like the fighting competition UFC and Dr Seuss. Dapper Labs also has a deal with Warner Music Group.

Sumo Digital is a big name in the British game industry. They do a lot of support for external projects, while also developing their own. The team worked on mobile games like Team Sonic Racing, while they also working on console games like Snake Pass, Little Big Planet 3, Disney Infinity 3.0 and Forza Horizon 2.

What is Flow?

Flow is a proof-of-stake blockchain. This means that nodes hosted based on economic wealth instead of computing power. The Flow network introduces five different nodes, which means the workload will be split between them. Each node is a bit different and they all compliment each other. As a result everybody can help to build the network, ranging from home computers to data centers.

In a traditional blockchain every node stores the account balances, smart contract code etc. Each of the nodes performs all of the work associated with every transaction. Because of this these nodes require strong hardware and do lots of technical work. The Flow blockchain applies decentralized participation, allowing a wide range of participants to commit to a range of technical and financial commitments. This results in five different roles: Collection, Consensus, Execution, Verification, and Observation.

For regular users it will be easy to use Flow. There won’t be any transaction fees. As a result this makes breeding Cryptokitties and sending someone in-game assets a lot more user friendly. Aside from Dapper Labs own projects Cryptokitties and NBA Top Shot, there are more games coming to Flow. Among them is Chainmonsters, a Pokémon-inspired online game.
