STEPN GO has opened registration for Marathon Challenge Season 3. The move-to-earn app announced that sign-ups are now live, directing players to the FSL marathon site to join. The new season leans heavily on community feedback, adding features that change how players compete, track progress, and work as a team across both STEPN and STEPN GO.
The Marathon Challenge is a built-in feature rather than a one-off event, rewarding daily discipline over a full season. Season 3 refines that formula with a batch of quality-of-life and social upgrades, positioning consistency as both the challenge and the reward.
How the Marathon Challenge works
The core mechanic is a consistency contract. Players choose a reward pool by locking 50, 100, or 200 USD, then commit to using at least 2 Energy every day in either STEPN or STEPN GO. A season runs across 6 rounds of 14 days each, and completing all 14 days keeps a player's full entry and automatically rolls them into the next round unless they opt out. Miss a single day, and a player is eliminated, forfeits their entry for that round, and must register again.
The reward structure is built on that risk. Successful finishers share the money forfeited by eliminated participants in their reward pool, so payouts vary depending on how many players take part and how many make it through. For Season 3, registration runs from August 3 at 10am UTC to August 10 at 12pm UTC, with Round 1 taking place from August 10 to August 24. The design turns showing up every day into a genuine test of endurance, backed by real stakes.
What is new in Season 3
Season 3's headline change addresses the harshest part of the format. It introduces insurance protection for one missed day, giving players a safety net against elimination if they slip up once, a direct response to community feedback about the all-or-nothing structure. That single change softens the challenge's punishing edge while keeping its consistency focus intact.
Beyond insurance, the season upgrades the social and tracking layers. It brings an improved team experience for players competing together, plus avatars and custom Marathon names to personalize participation. Enhanced profiles and full-season leaderboards give players a clearer view of where they stand across the whole season, and improved challenge tracking offers clearer progress indicators. Together, these additions make the competition more team-oriented, more personal, and easier to follow.
Inside STEPN GO
STEPN GO is a move-to-earn lifestyle app from FSL, the studio behind the original STEPN. It builds on the move-to-earn model that STEPN pioneered, rewarding users with crypto for walking, jogging, or running outdoors while wearing NFT sneakers. The app is free to download and explore, but earning requires owning an NFT sneaker, purchased through the in-app marketplace, with entry-level sneakers historically ranging from around 50 to 300 USD depending on market conditions.
The gameplay revolves around those NFT sneakers and their attributes. Sneakers carry stats like Efficiency, Luck, Comfort, and Resilience that affect how much users earn, the quality of mystery box drops, and how quickly sneakers degrade. Users spend Energy to earn while moving, with Energy replenishing over time, and GPS tracking ensures activity is genuine. STEPN GO layers a stronger social experience on top of the original formula, and the Marathon Challenge ties both apps together, letting players split their required Energy between STEPN and STEPN GO to complete daily goals.
The Marathon Challenge itself culminates in a capstone event. After the rounds, dedicated players can enter a STEPNathon finale, aiming to complete a full marathon distance in one go across either app, sealed with blockchain-verified proof of achievement. It frames the whole season as a training arc where consistency through the rounds becomes real endurance at the end.
The GGT and GMT tokens
STEPN GO runs on GGT as its core in-game earning token, the equivalent of the original STEPN's GST. Users earn GGT by moving with their NFT sneakers, with earnings shaped by sneaker type, level, efficiency, quality, gem sockets, and fitness level. Players begin with a small daily GGT cap that grows as they level up sneakers, and the cap can be pushed higher by burning gems, giving dedicated users a path to greater earnings over time.
Governance and higher-tier rewards flow through GMT, the green metaverse token that spans the broader FSL ecosystem. The wider STEPN model is a dual-token economy, pairing a movement-earned utility token with GMT for governance and advanced functions, and sneakers can be bought using assets like SOL, BNB, or GMT. The Marathon Challenge adds a stablecoin layer on top, with reward pools locked in USD-denominated value, blending fitness stakes with crypto rewards.
A push for long-term engagement
The Marathon Challenge reflects how FSL is trying to solve move-to-earn's central problem: keeping users active long after the initial novelty fades. By tying rewards to daily consistency across a multi-week season, the format rewards habit-building rather than short bursts of activity, and the Season 3 updates aim to make that commitment more forgiving and more social.
The community-driven changes signal that FSL is iterating based on player feedback rather than simply repeating past seasons. Insurance for a missed day, better team play, avatars, and full-season leaderboards all respond to how players actually engaged with earlier rounds. With registration open now through August 10 and Round 1 starting the same day, STEPN GO is inviting both STEPN and STEPN GO users to lock in, move daily, and compete for a share of the reward pool over the season ahead.
