Solana-powered web3 game and ecosystem Star Atlas has announced the launch of Holosim, a F2P version of SAGE Labs through which they aim to test out new features before they go live on mainnet in the browser-based game.
Holosim is a free to play online space strategy game set in the Star Atlas universe. It is basically the same game as SAGE Labs, with the key difference being that this is fully free to play and thus lacking any web3 features to let you play and earn. This makes it easier for anyone interested in the on-chain strategy game to get a good feel of the blockchain-powered title and all its mechanics by simply playing a risk-free edition for free.
In this test release, players side with one of 3 different factions and compete to be the first to deliver all Faction Infrastructure Contracts (FICs) to Starbases on their faction’s territory. Each faction differs in missions, exclusive resources, and specialized ships. FICs are crafted at Starbases using various different resources, which vary based on the chosen faction. These contracts were introduced near the end of last year to make it simpler to earn $ATLAS in SAGE Labs.
If you wanted to try SAGE Labs before but didn’t want to make the investment or spend on fleet rentals without trying the game out for yourself first, you now have the opportunity to manage fleets, take on quests and experience player-driven economies without cost through the new free to play version, which is now live in public test phase. You can access it through your web browser by heading to holosim.staratlas.com, which is also found linked in the embedded X announcement down below. From there you’ll be shortly greeted by your personal AI assistant before choosing your name and faction to create your character.
Not only is this a great way to get used to all the aspects of the play to earn title before spending on mainnet, but it’s also a chance for the developers to test out new features in a safer environment as well.
That being said, there are already new features for newcomers and veterans to test out and provide feedback on before the team decides to push them to the mainnet game. The new features currently being tested in this initial launch include Combat, SAGE, Route Manager, Tutorial System, and Questing System.
For the first time ever, players can actually dive into combat and engage in strategic ship battles. If you do so and you lose your fleet, well, you can't get them back as they will actually be permanently destroyed, at least for the time being. Choose your battles wisely.
SAGE is said to be your very own personal AI assistant that has been trained to help you out with anything related to the Star Atlas universe. This one is especially useful for new players who would like to learn more about this sci-fi gaming metaverse. To further make the main browser game more accessible to new players, a new Tutorial System is being tested to help you quickly get up to speed with core game mechanics, so be sure to let the team know if this onboarding experience is truly helpful enough to kickstart your quest for space domination.
The Route Manager is a new set of automation tools that allow you to streamline your operations to make everything easier to manage than before, and as such is an addition that is certainly welcome to players of all skill levels.
Last but not least, an actual Questing System is being tested for inclusion on mainnet. This will give players proper new daily missions, storyline quests, and more types of tasks to progress through while earning XP and hopefully some decent goodies for successful completion of these varied challenges.
If you've been hesitant before, then perhaps now is the time to jump into the Star Atlas metaverse and become a part of the space game's growing economy. Check out our game spotlight on Star Atlas to learn more.
