The team behind one of the oldest blockchain titles still going to date, Splinterlands, have announced the launch of Genesis League Goals, a football/soccer management game, now live in open beta.
This new title from the blockchain gaming studio is a part of their new play-to-earn platform, Genesis League Sports, and features officially-licensed digital trading cards based on players from the MLSPA (Major League Soccer Players Association). It launched in open beta on August 3rd and lets anyone who signs up to collect various MLS players in order to create a strong team to compete against other players in turn-based card strategy gameplay.
Aside from signing up to create an account, in order to actually try this game out you need to purchase a Franchise License for $10. With this license, you’re able to buy packs containing 5 players, earn rewards, take part in future tournaments, and more. Since the game runs on the Hive blockchain, you’ll have to pay using $HIVE tokens.
As a manager, you can create a team of up to 30 player cards that can be upgraded with skills and equipment that can be added to the available slots of an NFT card. Next to players, you’ll need coach cards too as a way to get additional buffs for a potential advantage in matches. Speaking of matches, a match requires having a team of 7 starters, up to 5 substitutes and up to 10 reserve players. One match consists of 30 turns, with each turn representing 3 minutes of in-game time, adding up to a full 90-minute match. The player who has the ball will have 5 seconds to make one of 3 different actions: passing, shooting, or dribbling. If an option isn’t selected within the time limit, the game will auto-choose for you. In any case, if the action turns out successful, you’ll be given another turn, and it will continue that way until you eventually make a mistake. For more details, be sure to check out this guide on the official support page here, alongside other relevant articles from the developers. The whitepaper can be found here.
