MBC deepens its foray into Web3 by signing an MOU with The Sandbox metaverse

One of the leading TV networks in South Korea, Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), has teamed up with The Sandbox to expand its presence on Web3. Through this collab, MBC will introduce original metaverse content and launch its virtual Sangam HQ in The Sandbox. 

This one-of-a-kind partnership came in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at MBC Smart Center on September 1st. According to Park Jae-hoon, the Department Manager of MBC, he has been watching the space for quite some time, especially on what's happening in The Sandbox realm. 

"I have been paying attention to the 3 million users of The Sandbox and its collaborations with Snoop Dogg and Warner Music," said Park. "MBC is set to introduce a whole new experience in The Sandbox by leveraging its know-how in building successful metaverse and NFT projects among local broadcasters in the past."

Sharing the same enthusiasm, Lee Seung-hee, CEO of The Sandbox Korea, said: "I am delighted to partner with MBC, which has been creating broadcast content loved by many Koreans for a long time."

MBC's latest entry is expected to provide a huge boost to K-verse, a Korean pop culture-focused space in The Sandbox. K-drama lovers will be in for a treat as the company intends to offer various content related to its dramas and other TV shows. 

Of course, with the ever-growing interest in K-pop and the metaverse, combining both of them always makes a lot of sense. In May, South Korean entertainment group Studio Dragon brought its K-drama content into The Sandbox. 

This is followed by Ragnarok Online developer Gravity who brought its flagship gaming IP to the same platform in July. There's just so much hype for it that even South Korean officials are starting to work on a Metaverse Industry Promotion Act
