Sorare Requires Phone Verification

Fantasy football game Sorare now requires all players to verify using a mobile phone number. This way the company wants to prevent players from running multiple accounts, while it also provides more security for players. Sorare sees running multiple accounts as cheating.

"Over the last few months, we’ve successfully banned several accounts that engaged in multi-accounting in our fantasy game", the company wrote in a blog post. In the future Sorare wants to do more to prevent multi-accounting, because it's relatively easy to acquire an extra phone number.

Sorare just started their third football season. In the past few months the fantasy football game acquired licenses from the South Korean, Japanese and American football competitions. Yes, we're talking football here. The sports where you kick the ball with your feet all the time.

Sorare in good form

The fantasy football game is enjoying lots of hype in recent months. Consistently the game is among the most applications on the Ethereum blockchain. In the past 24 hours there have been 1763 card transfers, which is the highest number of any ERC-721 token. At the moment there are 54.704 cards on the market, held by 1746 wallets.

In July the company received a four million dollar investment to push the game forward. Before the end of the year, the Paris-based company wants to have approximately 150 different clubs in their portfolio.

What is Sorare?

Sorare is a fantasy football game powered by blockchain technology. The project also has support from game publisher Ubisoft through the company’s entrepreneurs lab.

Blockchain technology introduces actual scarcity to digital cards, so these cards have a limited supply. Players can use the cards they’ve bought to create a fantasy team. Each card represents a real player. Based on the performance of that player on the actual pitch, the card holders will earn points. Every week the teams with the most points will earn new cards as a reward.

The cheapest cards generally sell for a couple of dollars, while the most wanted ones go for well over a thousand dollars a piece. Join the game!
