At this year’s EthCC8, the largest annual gathering in Europe taking place this year in Cannes, France from June 30 to July 3, Layer 1 blockchain Somnia officially announced a partnership with Google Cloud, bringing a wide range of benefits such as AI agent integration in order to make the high-performance network even better for developers and more secure for everyone.
What Benefits Does the Google Cloud Partnership Bring to Somnia?
The partnership means that Google Cloud is now a validator on the Somnia network, helping further strengthen the gaming and entertainment-focused chain by unlocking the ability to leverage the tech giant’s enterprise-grade infrastructure, which should lead to enhanced security and reliability while further decentralizing the L1. Further bolstering security is the introduction of Mandiant-powered security capabilities, which provide this ecosystem with upgraded threat intelligence and expertise in safeguarding links between web2 and web3 infrastructure. Next to these significant additions, there are also customized security solutions for crucial events such as TGEs and mainnet launches.
That’s not all this collaboration brings however, as there are a number of significant benefits being added to the network through this partnership that will be especially useful for web3 game developers and AI-focused creators to make use of.
Somnia Founder Paul Thomas said the following in a statement:
“Working with Google Cloud marks a huge step forward in setting the foundations for a truly agentic, on-chain internet. With their support across validator operations, BigQuery datasets and AI agent tooling we’re redefining how games are built and giving developers an accessible platform to build immersive, intelligent projects that can flourish.”
Next to security improvements, developers can look forward to utilizing an integrated cloud platform and Google’s AI agent ecosystem. This means that by developing on this network, you get access to Google Cloud’s fully integrated cloud, data, and AI platform, which means you will be able to track real-time blockchain data streaming through Google Cloud Pub/Sub alongside indexed Somnia datasets within BigQuery. Since their AI agent ecosystem (that includes ADK, A2A, and MCP) is also being integrated to the blockchain, you will now be able to add in interoperable AI agents in your on-chain games and dApps, allowing you to introduce AI-powered features that include dynamic NPCs, reactive game mechanics, AI-driven market participants, and more for a potentially better blockchain gaming experience that is accessible for anyone to enjoy thanks to the network’s low fees.
The Managing Director for Web3 at Google Cloud, James Tromans, added the following:
“Google Cloud is dedicated to supporting the Web3 ecosystem with our secure, scalable infrastructure and powerful AI capabilities. To empower Somnia’s developers, we’re excited to collaborate and provide a scalable platform, powerful data streaming and robust security intelligence, and to support Somnia developers as they create agent-driven applications.”
When Will Google Cloud’s Integrations Deploy on Somnia?
You can expect all the new integrations from this partnership to be deployed on Somnia at some point this summer. Developers will be invited to try out all the new features on testnet. If you’ve been looking for a robust chain to build your AI-powered game or dApp on, then now might be the time to join this EVM L1 network. Anyone at EthCC this week can also get some nice Somnia merch while supply lasts.
About Somnia
Somnia is a high-performance blockchain focused on providing the fastest and most efficient EVM L1 for millions of users to easily access while empowering developers with all the features they need to build innovative play to earn games and consumer dApps.
Early this year, Somnia and Uprising Labs unveiled a $10m accelerator to power the future of web3 gaming. Last month, Sparkball entered the Somnia ecosystem to power the game’s next phase with real-time web3 infrastructure, and Variance joined in as well ahead of a July playtest.
