Sky Mavis Launched Ronin Mobile Wallet

Sky Mavis launched the Ronin mobile wallet in an already eventful first few days of November. The mobile wallet will allow all players, specifically those in developing countries, to gain economic access to the Ronin ecosystem. This means that they can now easily have control over their SLP, AXS, ETH and RON holdings on the Ethereum sidechain.

Sky Mavis made the Ronin Mobile Wallet available on both Google Play and the iOS App Store. Users can store their crypto assets, and send and receive tokens. Sky Mavis has the ultimately goal to make all applications on Ronin available through the mobile app. However, recent history shows that Apple in particular is often opposed to that idea.

The Ronin mobile wallet works with the Axie marketplace. Users simply need to surf to the marketplace, and then sign in using the wallet. The team will soon also make AXS staking and the Katana DEX available on mobile devices.

Sky Mavis launching products

It's safe to say that the past week has been very eventful for everybody involved in the Axie Infinity ecosystem. Sky Mavis launched the decentralized exchange Katana, allowing users to swap AXS, ETH, SLP and USDC. Two days later they also introduced RON rewards for liquidity providers. You can't claim RON yet, but ultimately the token will become the utility and governance token of the Ronin ecosystem.

Right now Ronin is a sidechain for Axie Infinity. That's it. But Sky Mavis is working on land gameplay, which basically introduces a new game. Down the road Ronin will open up, and more developers will launch games. Perhaps each of those future games will tap into Axie Infinity and those cute little characters, but that's not set in stone. However, it's very clear that we're now in the early days of Ronin, and Sky Mavis is paving the path for a play-to-earn future.

What is Axie Infinity?

Let’s quickly talk a bit about Axie Infinity. The tactical battle game uses its own, native Ronin sidechain. In the game players need to use 3 Axie NFTs to battle opponents and earn Smooth Love Potions (SLP). Players need to use SLP to breed new Axies. In addition parent Axies can only breed children a limited amount of times. SLP has a demand, while the floor price for an Axie NFT is right now more than $200. In short, you need three $200 Axies to play and earn SLP tokens.

Earning SLP tokens has become a source of income for people in developing countries. Among those countries the Philippines is leading the pack. The organization and economics behind this, is also becoming more professional. Third party organizations like Yield Guild Games are building tools and communities to really turn people into gamers earning income by playing Axie Infinity.

Axie Infinity moved to the Ronin sidechain earlier this year, and launched staking of their AXS governance token earlier this month. The game uses play-to-earn mechanics to reward players with Smooth Love Potions, empowering communities around the world. In their latest update, the team reiterated their focus on three main components: rewarding value creation, co-creation and co-ownership.

The community has grown to over 2.5 million players without ever releasing their game on Google Play or the iOS App Store. With Axie Infinity the developers actively want to redefine what it means to work in a world where digital ownership has actual value.
