Skillcap Studio has announced future plans for The Beacon, a free-to-play fantasy roguelite RPG.
In an official blog post shared with the community, Skillcap has identified three development stages to position itself as one of the leading blockchain game studios and The Beacon as one of the landmark Web3 games.
The first stage involves launching The Beacon in Alpha, which is set for Q1 2024. While still in its early stages, The Beacon aims to provide a diverse gameplay experience by combining elements from three distinct genres: i) the fast-paced gameplay of a roguelike game, ii) the immersive social aspects of an MMORPG, and iii) the creative gameplay of an RPG sim that allows players to build their virtual homes.
Once The Beacon has reached its full potential, the team will develop secondary titles based on the RPG. For instance, the Moonfae collection may be incorporated into a pet battle game, adding more utility to NFTs within The Beacon's universe. While these games will be standalone, they can interact with The Beacon as a hub.
In stage 3, Skillcap's goal is to become a game studio with multiple realms. This will be similar to Activision Blizzard, which has a varied portfolio of IPs, such as Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo.
To achieve these goals, changes will be made to The Beacon's gameplay. The first is the sunset of the Shards system, which occurred on May 29th. Players can no longer earn Shards from the game. However, they will have until July 5th to exchange their Shards for items or chests. Loot drops will remain available until The Harvester Event ends on June 19th.
Besides that, the content and item drop cadence will change while the team focuses on the Alpha launch. During The Harvester Event, players will get to burn a number of assets in exchange for a boosted $MAGIC emission. After that, more initiatives will be announced by the Skillcap team.
