Collectible turn-based tactics game Shardbound is running its second limited time event called Ruins of the Weaver in which players have until August 6th, 11 AM PT to progress through increasingly-challenging stages on their own to win rare in-game prizes.
Unlike last week’s successful Community Bot Battle which saw players work together to beat bot Commanders, this new event has everyone go solo, fighting Commanders featuring new decks and upgraded cards across 5 stages. Each stage is tougher than the last, so the further you progress, the better the rewards are. Prizes include Shards, Cores and cards of Rare and Epic rarity. Here are the details for each stage:
Stage 1: Professor Mori
Stage 2: General Vardan
Stage 3: Baroness Sabine
Stage 4: Director Petra
Stage 5: Venerator Wynn
As these are in-game rewards, it’s currently unclear if you’ll be keeping them after the game or if it will be possible to mint them into NFTs. It’s free to try though, so if you like strategic titles and would like to test your wits, then you may enjoy participating in this event while it’s still up and running.
For this event, the studio has added a new bundle to the shop: the Synergy Bundle. This bundle contains 4 cards from a certain faction alongside a dual-colored relic, all of which may help give you a better chance of completing the entire event.
Shardbound is a free to play turn-based tactics game which launched into open beta on the Epic Games Store near the end of June this year, though it's referred to as a Limited Beta as it requires a couple of simple steps to gain free access. To download the strategic title on Windows PCs via the store, you will first need to pre-register on the game’s official website using your email or Immutable Passport. Doing so should give you a page containing a link to a specific Epic Games Store page that will let you add the beta version to your library so you can download it and get going. This may also give you an exclusive playable card. The true open beta, which will likely let you download directly from the main store page, is planned to go live at some point later this year.
Each 1v1 match takes place on a 3D hexagonal battlefield and has you place various cards that turn into movable Minions you’ll use to take down the opponent’s Commander card to win the game. This means that each deck needs to have at least one Commander as well as one Relic, which is equipped by the Commander to gain special abilities. Next to Commander, Minion and Relic card types there are also Equipment cards you can add to Minions to make them stronger, as well as Spells with varying effects, including the ability to alter the map’s terrain for a potential strategic advantage.
Aside from taking down the Commander, players can also win games by collecting 10 Victory Points, gained by hitting and destroying the 3 Victory Crystals that appear in each match, with the unit holding the point(s) needing to keep them safe for a full turn to successfully earn them.
For the time being there are no Web3 features integrated, but you can currently enjoy an early version of the turn-based gameplay while building decks ahead of a full release for which there seems to be no timeframe available at the time of writing. According to the FAQ in the official Discord server, the game will remain free to play and will eventually be playable on mobile as well, with the developers committed to having a monetization system that isn’t pay to win.
