The Ronin Network team has announced that they have officially partnered with Zillion Whales, described as an “award-winning” studio that was founded in 2013 and is currently working on Wild Forest, a free-to-play RTS game features card-collecting mechanics and PvP battles.
This marks the network’s 6th official game studio partner after unveiling 5 of them back in March this year. Zillion Whales is known for the Mushroom Wars strategy games, and now they’re ready to bring RTS gaming to Web3 with the upcoming new title. The CEO of the gaming studio, Andrey Korotkov, said the following in the official announcement:
“We are thrilled to join the Ronin family and admire the warm welcome and support from Sky Mavis. We are excited to bring our strategy games expertise we forged for years to Web3.”
Wild Forest is a mobile-focused RTS in which you’ll engage in fast-paced PvP battles where the goal is to destroy the opponent’s castle. The whole battlefield is visible on one screen, with the aim of making gameplay “easy to understand, hard to master.” You’ll get to spawn units and gain resources to use to your advantage. The units you’ll be able to deploy will depend on your deck of cards representing the actual units. As you play, you’ll earn gold and experience points, allowing you to level up your units. Each match consists of multiple territories spread across a battlefield completely visible from a single screen. You’ll send units to claim these territories in order to be able to build on them and get closer to attacking your opponent.
There are 3 types of buildings: Towers, Mines, and Barracks. You can probably assume the function of each: Towers help you defend against enemy units, with the option to upgrade them in order to increase range and damage available; Mines are also upgradable and are used for generating energy in order to be able to spawn more and construct buildings, while Barracks let you spawn units.
The game will be free to play, and is said to provide the “pure, old-school exhilaration of RTS games.” Players will be able to compete in seasonal leaderboards in order to earn rewards. Assets such Unit and Skin NFTs, as well as the game’s $WF token, will be tradable in the future on secondary markets.
Wild Forest is currently available in closed alpha, with access being rolled out to Mystic axie holders and certain Axie/Ronin creators, with anyone interested in trying to get early access having to fill out an application form while joining the game’s Discord server and following the game’s Twitter/X account.
