Developer RedLab Games, together with Wemix Play, has officially unveiled the blockchain-powered game economy of ROM: Golden Age.

How Will the Game Economy in ROM: Golden Age Work?

The game economy is set to be powered by “RPG Tokenomics 3.0”, a system that aims to redefine the mining experience by combining classic gameplay elements from traditional MMOs with innovative web3 features to deliver an immersive and rewarding blockchain gaming experience.

With this system, gameplay, player progression, and market activity are all said to be interconnected, as each action you take is turned into “meaningful progress, not mindless repetition.”

To achieve this player-driven, open economy, the team is setting up an economic mint-and-burn structure that aims to reward anyone who continues to grow and progress through the game. This structure will consist of 2 tokens: CROM and CRYSTAL.

To earn CROM and CRYSTAL tokens, you will need to mint them using in-game resources called Dia and Crystals. You will also need to reach a certain level and have enough power to gain access to minting tokens, but you won’t need to know anything about blockchain technology to instantly convert your resources into tokens you truly own.

Dia and Crystals will be possible to earn through various in-game activities that haven’t been clearly specified, though it has been mentioned that Crystal Cores are “easy to mine or trade [through the] in-game auction”. You can likely expect similar mechanics to take place here such as the ones found in other Wemix titles, including Mir4 and Night Crows.

Once you have enough of these resources and have progressed far enough into the game to gain access to minting, you will be able to start exchanging your earnings to actual CROM and CRYSTAL tokens, both of which are said to have “real, usable value.”

CROM is a staking token that can be swapped to USDC.e, which is the bridged version of USDC that is designed to be used on the Wemix 3.0 mainnet, but you can easily bridge USDC.e back to native USDC on the Ethereum network by using Transporter, a cross-chain bridging service powered by Chainlink CCIP. Next to swapping, you can choose to stake CROM instead in order to earn more CRYSTAL tokens.

CRYSTAL is set to be a dual-purpose token that is needed for progressing through the game, but is also able to be traded for CROM and other tokens on decentralized exchanges.

Essentially, by simply playing and enjoying the web3 MMO, you will be able to play to earn resources that in turn allow you to earn tradable tokens. In order to ensure long-term sustainability of this dual-token economy, a share of the game’s total revenue will be invested back into the CROM Swap Pool. There will also be regular token buybacks and burns to further support the value of CROM. You won’t be able to mint as much CROM as you want though, because the system is designed to prevent over-issuance by limiting the number of tokens you can mint depending on your character growth, rewarding long-term engagement and player progress.

Secure CRYSTAL Token Early Through Pre-Exchange Event

The Pre-Exchange event gives the web3 gaming community a limited time opportunity to exchange PLAY Tokens into CRYSTAL from July 22, 01:00 UTC, to July 28, 23:59 UTC.

To participate, log in to the Wemix Play website, open the Tokens tab, select CRYSTAL, click “GET CRYSTAL” on the CRYSTAL Exchange page, and put the number of PLAY Tokens you’d like to exchange. If you don’t have enough PLAY Tokens, you can get them by heading to the Tokens tab on the Wemix Play website, where you can select PLAY and click on “DEX” on the PLAY Token page in order to use $WEMIX tokens to buy PLAY on the WEMIX PLAY Market.

The total supply is 30,000 CRYSTAL and the price for CRYSTAL started at $0.5, with the price increasing every day. There are daily caps in place however, so once the allocation for the day runs out, you have to wait for the next day for the exchange to open back up again. Daily allocations reset at 00:00 UTC, and you will want to be ready to exchange as soon as possible, because the first two days saw the token getting sold out in only 5 minutes, two days in a row.

This event represents the only chance to get CRYSTAL using PLAY Tokens, so if you want to secure your CRYSTAL allocation early, then you may want to participate. There is no participation limit, so if you get tokens in one day, you can come back again the next day to try and gain more.
