On November 4, blockchain infrastructure firm NEXUS revealed that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korean game developer Redlab Games. This new deal sets the stage for expanding onchain gaming on the CROSS platform, which NEXUS has been building out throughout 2025.

Redlab brings its experience in building large-scale online games, while NEXUS provides tools that make blockchain easier for both developers and players. Together, they plan to improve how blockchain is used in games without making things more complex.

What the MOU Covers

The agreement outlines several areas of partnership between NEXUS and Redlab. The two teams will work on features that use blockchain in ways that keep user experiences smooth and straightforward.

This includes support for token-based items, creator programs, and fair, safe marketplaces. The two companies also plan to test AI-powered support tools that can help players and developers with questions about gameplay, tokens, and features.

Another part of the plan is to share what they learn during this process. NEXUS and Redlab want to make it easier for other studios to try onchain gaming without needing deep knowledge of how web3 works.

About Redlab Games

Redlab Games is a South Korean game maker known for building hardcore MMORPGs for both PC and mobile. The studio calls itself an "RPG Lab for Adults" and focuses on traditional game systems like grinding, large-scale PvP, and strategic battles.

Their biggest title so far is ROM: Remember of Majesty. It launched in early 2024 in 10 countries, including Korea and Taiwan, through a partnership with Kakao Games. The game quickly gained traction and hit #2 on Google Play in Korea and #3 in Taiwan. It also won "Best Game" in the PC category for Taiwan and Hong Kong at the Google Play Best of 2024 Awards.

ROM features a shared global server, letting players on PC and mobile play together. It includes multiple classes, detailed customization, guardian summons, and large-scale battles set in a fantasy world called Calderas.

ROM: Golden Age and Blockchain Integration

After the success of the original game, Redlab released ROM: Golden Age in August 2025. This version added blockchain features and launched worldwide, excluding Korea, China, and Singapore. It was built on the WEMIX mainnet and published through the WEMIX PLAY platform in partnership with blockchain company Wemade.

ROM: Golden Age kept the same gameplay and graphics as the original, but added a play to earn system. Redlab called this setup "RPG Tokenomics 3.0." Players earn in-game currencies called Dia and Crystals. These can be minted into two blockchain tokens: CROM and CRYSTAL.

CROM can be converted into USDC.e and eventually swapped for regular USDC on the Ethereum network. CRYSTAL is used for in-game progression and can also be traded. This setup lets players gain real-world value from their time in the game.

Even with the launch of ROM: Golden Age, Redlab didn't change the core of the original game. Instead, it added blockchain features on top of the same world and systems. That approach helped longtime players stick with the game while also drawing new users from the web3 space.

Will ROM: Golden Age Move to CROSS?

So far, there's been no official word on whether ROM: Golden Age will move to the CROSS ecosystem. The new MOU between NEXUS and Redlab focuses on future collab and integration, but doesn't mention any change in the status of existing titles.

As of now, ROM: Golden Age remains on the WEMIX network. It continues to be supported by Wemade, and there's no confirmation that it will be part of the CROSS rollout.

The MOU does suggest that new projects could come from this partnership. But that part of the plan hasn't been shared yet.

What NEXUS Brings to the Partnership

NEXUS is the development company behind CROSS Protocol, a web3 ecosystem for gaming that launched in 2025. The company is listed on the KOSDAQ and led by Henry Chang, former CEO of Wemade, WEMIX, and Neowiz Mobile.

NEXUS has built CROSS to make blockchain more approachable for game studios. It offers tools and systems that simplify everything from wallet creation to token setup and player support. These tools include:

ARA AI Integration: A smart assistant that gives live support for things like game features, token use, and player questions.

CROSS Ramp Console: A low-code dashboard that helps game teams create and manage tokens without needing blockchain developers.

CROSS Platform: A complete toolkit with wallets, a marketplace, and systems for managing digital items and currencies across games.

Together, these features let studios focus more on game design and less on blockchain infrastructure. As NEXUS puts it, the goal is to "remove web3 complexity for both studios and players."

What Comes Next

Now that the MOU is in place, NEXUS and Redlab Games will start building out their shared rollout plan. This will include setting up technical systems, exploring blockchain-powered features, and working out how best to use the CROSS ecosystem for future titles. Updates on their progress, including tools, events, and creator programs, will be shared through official NEXUS and CROSS channels.

Both teams are focused on making the shift to open gaming feel simple and rewarding. That means smoother onboarding, real ownership of in-game assets, and better tools for creators. Their goal is to show that bringing blockchain into games doesn't have to make things harder.

"The combination of an MMORPG and well-designed tokenomics increases immersion and delivers a fresh kind of fun. Together with Redlab Games — whose development track record is proven — we’ll create new milestones for blockchain gaming," said NEXUS CEO Henry Chang.
