Preview of Blocklords, the first AAA Grand Strategy MMO Coming in 2022

Blocklords is an expansive, medieval MMO strategy game featuring a fully player-owned economy. Players have the choice to play a variety of different roles, all with distinct yet very intertwined responsibilities within the Blocklords universe.

Metaking Studios, the team behind it, promised a web3 experience that seamlessly integrates with the game without any need for a complex setup. 

In March 2022, Blocklords was presented at the Game Developer Conference in California, and their booth attracted about 17,000 for a live demo of the game. Players were able to immerse themselves in the Blocklords metaverse through VR, and experience first-hand the freedom of choice and narrative of the game. 

The team members behind Blocklords worked on AAA games before and have experience in big studios such as Ubisoft and EA.

What is Blocklords?

Blocklords aims to be the first AAA title mixing legendary strategy games like Age of Empires, Total War, Crusader Kings, and Mount & Blade. They have taken the best of Age of Empires (developing civilization), Total War (Battle), and Crusader Kings (Political strategy/intrigue) to bring the best strategy game experience ever to everyone. 

The integration with web3 comes in the form of monetization, with tokenomics that will empower players to fully own their assets and earn from their skillset but will not be the core concept of the game. 

Metaking confirmed their NFTs will be hosted on the Immutable X Ethereum side-chain, the same one used by Gods Unchained, the popular TCG with play to earn mechanics. 

The first public beta of the gameplay is set to release within 2022. Some screenshots showing how the game looks are already available on their website. 

When asked what makes them different, the developers said “Assets in Blocklords are not limited to just the native tokens in the game, as the core gameplay loop incorporates a variety of different mechanics to spend, delegate, and earn different assets. Two examples we’re willing to disclose are feeding and taxing.”

The spoiler makes us believe there will be never-seen-before mechanics that will make it easier and more interesting to profit from playing Blocklords. We could see side-mechanics such as taxation become crucial to divide earnings in a territory, and feeding as a core principle for burning tokens. 

The game already attracted investment from Animoca Brands, Delphi Ventures, and dozens of other investment firms and venture capitalists. Their partner company, Seascape, is a GameFi platform helping developers ship their games on web3.

Blocklords Giveaway
