PlayStation Issues Survey on NFTs

PlayStation has issued a survey on NFTs. NFTs continue to be a subject of scrutiny as some have alleged that they are a means to exploit gamers. In contrast, others have said they bring diversity to gameplay through increased monetization. PlayStation stood on neutral ground, but this new development shows that the company may be considering a move into the NFT space.

Snorlax Ownz shared a screenshot taken from the PlayStation Quest. In the picture was a question, “Which of the following NFT/Digital Collectibles would you be most interested in purchasing?” options included Evo-branded NFTs, favourite music artists, favourite Esports players/teams and favourite game characters.

PlayStation May Choose to Incorporate NFTs Or Not

Although it is just a survey, it indicates that PlayStation was considering selling NFTs. However, it doesn’t mean that PlayStation will ultimately go into NFTs as products on the platforms. PlayStation recently announced PlayStation Stars, a loyalty program that will reward using digital collectibles. It described these collectibles as a digital representation of figurines and other arts.

Although PlayStation said these rewards are not NFTs, some fans have raised their concerns, stating that the company may be using the PlayStation Stars to make individuals familiarize themselves with the idea of NFTs.

The company is not the first to consider incorporating NFTs into its platform in the video game industry. Mojang, Minecraft developer, recently released a statement detailing evaluations on why NFTs don’t fit into its platform. On the other hand, Microsoft, Mojang’s parent company, said it was considering NFTs. In addition, steam has shown disinterest in NFTs, while Epic Games has also started exploring them.

PlayStation can decide to go either way, but its choice will mostly be affected by the reaction of its userbase.
