Idle RPG and fantasy roguelike Castile is having a Beta Test start on September 10th that lets participants play to earn the upcoming $CAST token from a 10 million token prize pool until October 10th.
This phase adds in 4 new features related to economy and competitive elements: the Tarot System, Trading System, League Boss Racing and League Tournament.
The Tarot System is described as being the “most powerful hero accessory” in this web3 title, as it lets players equip certain Tarot cards to activate specific Tarot sets in order to get useful attributes and benefits. Players can earn Tarot cards by battling in the Soulwell of Evil, which costs Tarot Coins, the game’s primary in-game currency. Holders of Tarot NFTs have a better chance of getting Tarot cards there though, and the in-game marketplace also lets players buy Tarot cards using Tarot Coins. Tarot Coins are also used for the new Trading System, where players can buy and sell equipment and items amongst each other using that in-game currency.
League Boss Racing pits players into two different leagues featuring the same League Boss. The goal is for players in the league to work together to take down their League Boss as fast as possible, so the league that takes out their boss first is the winner.
League Tournament however pits leagues of the same rank against each other to earn the highest number of points by doing various tasks. The Leagues that have higher points by the end of the event will be better rewarded, with points based on the total number of points collected by all players in that league. It also seems that there are certain milestones players can individually and collectively reach to unlock more rewards.
These are all the new features that come included in this new beta version. Anyone interested can download the game for free on mobile devices (or PC via an emulator) on September 10th at 2 PM SGT before the servers actually open at 8 PM SGT that day. An official download and login guide is available here. Character progress made during this beta test will be wiped, but Tarot Coins and high-level Tarot card items should end up staying for future playtests.
The 10 million $CAST prize pool is split across the Beta Lucky Draw event and play to earn, leaderboard-based activities.
The Beta Lucky Draw began on August 28th and ends on October 10th with up to 4 million tokens up for grabs. By creating an account on the game’s official website, you can head to the Lucky Draw section and join it using 1 Key. Tarot NFT holders get 3 free Keys every day, while non-holders can earn keys by ranking in the top 10 on the Weekly Quest Points leaderboard, as well as by spending 2000 Tarot Coins during this playtest, with each 2000 Tarot Coins spent awarding 1 Key. Participating in the Lucky Draw earns you Elite Points, and rewards will as such be distributed based on the total number of Elite Points earned.
When it comes to play to earn rewards, which make 6 million $CAST tokens in total, you will be able to earn this share of the prize pool until October 10th based on your League Ranking in the 2 new modes, League Boss Racing and League Tournament, but rewards are also set to be distributed based on Campaign Ranking, Gates of Hell Ranking, and Arena Ranking (Arena & High Level Arena). Gates of Hell has you battle your way through a demon-infested world to earn rewards, while the Campaign has you progress through a couple of chapters using a team of up to 5 heroes, with each chapter or map consisting of a number of stages to fight through. These maps also have monsters you can choose to challenge for rewards, as well as interactive objects or NPCs that can activate random events with more goodies to earn. The Arena is a PvP mode where you can challenge other players to gain points and increase your rank, with the rank influencing your prizes. It’s also important to set up a defensive formation, so you’re ready for any attacks from other players.
More details such as NFT holder benefits for this test phase and the claim reward process can be found in the official Medium post.
Castile is a free to play mobile card RPG and roguelike set in a fantasy Cthulhu universe. Players form a party of up to 5 distinct and upgradable characters and go on action-packed adventures in 3D environments while using special abilities of each party member to your advantage. Everyone begins with a starting hero and can get more cards through gameplay activities.
The developers are using what they refer to as a “Play and Trade” business model that revolves around giving players the freedom to tokenize in-game assets and easily trade them while having the ability to deposit and withdraw funds, with the team taking a fee from asset transactions that happen both in the game and out of it as well.
This blockchain game has been in development for 3 years by web3 gaming studio Nytro Lab, who held an alpha playtest earlier this year. They’ve raised a total of $25 million to date, and they've also had a marketing test period on TikTok in the US, during which they “outranked all similar Web2 games in its category” to claim the top spot, according to the whitepaper.
$CAST is the upcoming governance token that is capped at a 1 billion token supply and is used for not only governance voting but also for trading in-game items, buying resources, and more. It will be earnable through seasonal rewards, staking, and to players who contribute to the growth of the game’s community. A TGE may take place by the end of this year or early next year.
