The Holiday Tournament is a new competitive event that runs from December 12th to January 8th, 10 PM EST, bringing with it new content, features, and varied prizes to earn, including NFTs and cryptocurrencies.

When it comes to content, the event introduces a new map to play in called the Mystery Express. If you want to host this map, you need to own the Golden Train Ticket NFT, which you can get by buying the costume bundle called “The Complete Collection” in the game’s shop. You also have a chance of getting this tradable ticket as a daily reward for free from the store, or you could also purchase it from another player through the TokenTrove marketplace. The shop has also been loaded with a variety of new limited edition NFT items to buy using gems, an in-game premium currency that you can claim every day at the shop page, but also buy as an in-app purchase. These newly-added items include Outfit NFTs, Hat NFTs, and more, which you can find included as part of various costumes.

Alongside the new content are also 2 new features: Teams and text chat. Thanks to the release of the text chat feature, players now actually have the ability to send text messages to each other during a game, so if you can’t use voice chat, you now have another option to communicate and enjoy the game. With the introduction of the Teams feature, players can now join a variety of teams, including ones created by web3 gaming guilds, to compete for more rewards. You can’t create a team of your own during this event, so you’ll have to hop into one of the existing ones and try to help them out in getting one of the top 3 spots.

There are a total of 26 teams, and there is no limit to the number of members each team can have. The top 3 teams will be rewarded with a big pool of trophies, but only the top 50 players in each team will have these prizes distributed. Whether your team finishes 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, you will only be rewarded if you are among the best 50 players in your team.

According to a Discord announcement, releasing the Teams feature without the ability to set up your own clans was the only way to “offer this feature at all before the end of the year.” As such, this is more of an early release through which the developers would like to see if the function is popular enough amongst the community before making it possible to set up your own team.

Next to receiving trophies by being among the best players of a winning team, you can also earn trophies by playing on your own and completing various achievements.

Trophies are used to rank you up weekly leaderboards, which include 3 types of lootboxes for the top 15 players. The higher your ranking, the rarer the lootbox, meaning rarer cosmetic items that you can earn. If you rank high enough, you could also qualify for the “mysterious” airdrop. Based on the official video, it looks like this could be an airdrop of exclusive NFT cosmetics.

Next to that airdrop, players with lots of trophies can also earn double token rewards: $MYSTRY and $NIGHT. The $MYSTRY token is the upcoming official core token of this game and future titles from developer Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, who raised $3 million earlier this year. There is no TGE date yet announced at the time of writing, but the more trophies you earn during this competition, the bigger your allocation will be at TGE. Alongside this token airdrop, the tournament is made even more rewarding thanks to a partnership with blockchain gaming ecosystem Midnight Evergreen, who are bringing their $NIGHT token to the reward pool. As the $NIGHT token is already live, you should be able to receive your share straight away.

How to Participate in The Mystery Society’s Holiday Tournament

To participate in The Holiday Tournament, you simply have to play the game and collect as many trophies as you can to rank among the top players eligible for prizes. You can start playing The Mystery Society on Android by downloading through the Play Store, or you can play it on PC via your web browser by logging in to your Immutable Passport.

If you’re playing for the first time, you will get to customize your 2D character and input your username before diving in.
