Planet Rift Full of Ambition Within The Sandbox

Planet Rift has been announced as one of the biggest projects building its game inside The Sandbox. The game takes place on 64 land parcels and can be expanded by allowing landowners to become contributors to the game. Without building anything themselves, landowners can have their virtual land monetized by Planet Rift.

When Planet Rift launches - hopefully at the launch of The Sandbox later this year - it will use 488 land parcels. However, the team has the ambition to expand the virtual world of the game to hundreds of land parcels within the project's first 12 months.

Players will be able to tackle the content from Planet Rift in different ways. There are three classes: scholar, explorer and mercenary. Each class comes with its own district on the planet, different weapons and exclusive gear. There's something for everybody, ranging from battles to puzzles and from canyons to volcanoes.

Using their character players can dive into the story alone, or together with a friend. In addition Planet Rift will also offer competitive gameplay. During gameplay players will be able to earn Rift Coins. These tokens can then be used to acquire items or improve to overall state of planet. By doing the latter, the planet will get more functionalities. Planet Rift will have its own set of rare items, which are available through questing.

A look at the world of Planet Rift

The team behind Planet Rift describes the project as a science-fiction adventure that contains elements from strategy and action games. Planet Rift is created on a big estate of 144 land parcels big. This central hub consists out of four districts: Mainland (City Landscape), the Mercenary district (Winter landscape), the Scholar's district (a desert) and the explorer's district (a forest). At the center of all this players can find a uniting landmark called The Hub.

However, not everything is available from the start. When Planet Rift launches, the world is a wasteland. Players need to go on missions through the Launch Site in order to earn resources. The more resources are donated to Planet Rift, the more evolved things get.

The main area in Planet Rift is 144 land parcels big. All types of missions take place on different locations. For example, planet events take place on 6x6 estates, while challenge missions and special events will take place on small 3x3 estates. Individual land parcels are used for class, trial and collaborative missions. Planet Rift will support 64 players at the same time. They can socialize, explore, trade and go on missions together. Some missions require 10 people, others just a few.

What is The Sandbox?

The Sandbox is one of the blockchain-powered virtual worlds currently in development. The beta test will launch later this year, but before that time there will be one more pre-sale. During this pre-sale gamers, businesses and investors can buy virtual land with a discount. You can register now to make sure you’re not missing out.

The virtual world of The Sandbox consists out of lands, and voxels fill up each of those lands. Visually it will remind many gamers of Minecraft, as both games have this Lego-inspired look to them. However, players are able to buy virtual land and implement any form of monetization. These virtual lands can become mini-games, adventures, virtual shops, extensions of actual webshops, a space for social gatherings, and so on.

The Sandbox is providing free tools for developers, gamers and content creators. Creators can use VoxEdit to make objects. In addition the Game Maker allows users to create interactivity on their virtual land. The Sandbox will also create a meta gaming experience. Players can for example do daily quests or weekly quests for their guild. This will earn players SAND, which they can sell or use to buy in-game items. This system is called play-to-earn.
