Pegaxy, a play-to-earn NFT horse racing game, will transition into mobile player-controlled 3D gaming soon. To that end, the team will sunset all Pegaxy web-based 2D/3D gameplay on January 5th to kick off this long-awaited transition.
There are no details yet on what's entailed in the skill-based gaming experience. However, Corey Wilton, the CEO of Mirai Labs, has promised to keep the community updated on additional changes and a new roadmap once they're ready.
According to Wilton, ditching the web-based game will allow the team to focus on shipping the next stage of Pegaxy by the end of Q1'23. A Pega Insider will also be held the day after Thursday's update to answer all burning questions from the community. During this transition, the Marketplace, Themis, Apollo, and My Assets will remain accessible and usable.
Skill-based races are one of the long-overdue features in Pegaxy. For now, it looks like it will finally hit the scene. The team previously tweaked the mechanics here and there to reduce token inflation. But it didn't help much as repetitive gameplay and restrictive game modes have put off many players from trying or staying in this game.
The team has also introduced items like consumables for players to alter their Pegas' attributes. However, Pegaxy is still in an auto-racer mode, with the race results mainly determined by Random Number Generator (RNG). In a skill-based environment, players are expected to manually control their Pegas, with attack and defense tools at their disposal, to secure victory in the game.
With no clear confirmation though, it remains to be seen how skill-based races will work in Pegaxy. Interested players will have to stay tuned for the Pega Insider this week.
